Kansas has treated fans to a preview of “Throwing Mountains,” one of the nine songs featured on the band’s upcoming studio album, The Absence of Presence, along with a glimpse of the accompanying video for the tune, which will premiere this Friday, April 17.
The Absence of Presence will be released on June 26, and can be pre-ordered starting April 17 at KansasBand.com and Amazon.
The album will be available on CD, and as a two-LP 180-gram-vinyl set, a limited-edition deluxe CD/Blu-ray package, digitally and via streaming services.
The record was produced by Kansas guitarist Zak Rizvi, who joined the band in 2016, with co-production help from the group’s founding drummer Phil Ehart and guitarist Rich Williams.
“We are really proud of the album The Absence of Presence,” says Rizvi. “Making a new Kansas album sets a very high musical standard that is expected from our fans. From rockers, to progressive epics, to ballads, there is something on this recording for everybody.”
Meanwhile, a video sampler of The Absence of Presence featuring audio clips of five songs — “Throwing Mountains,” the title track, “Memories Down the Line,” “Jets Overhead” and “Circus of Illusion” — premiered recently on the Inside Out Music label’s official YouTube channel.
Kansas recently postponed a number of U.S. tour dates because of the coronavirus pandemic. The next confirmed show on the band’s scheduled is a May 8 concert in Lowell, Massachusetts, although more dates could be affected by the health crisis.
