Grateful Dead’s fourth “Shakedown Stream” screening to feature ‘The Closing of Winterland’ concert film

The fourth installment of The Grateful Dead‘s weekly streaming concert series, “Shakedown Stream,” premieres tonight at 8 p.m. ET on the band’s official YouTube channel. This screening will feature The Closing of Winterland, a film that documents the group’s 1978 New Year’s Eve performance at the famous San Francisco venue.

The show was among the last ever to be played at the Winterland Ballroom, which also is where The Band‘s historic farewell concert “The Last Waltz” was held in 1976. The Grateful Dead played a three-set marathon that included fan favorites like “Dark Star,” “Wharf Rat” and “St. Stephen.”

As with the other three “Shakedown Stream” events, this one will begin with an on-camera live pre-show featuring Grateful Dead archivist David Lemieux and band historian Gary Lambert, with former Grateful Dead backing singer Donna Jean Godchaux as their special guest. Donna Jean was a member of the band from 1974 until 1979.

You can submit questions for Lemieux, Lambert and Godchaux to answer during the pre-show at the “Shakedown Stream” submission page. A limited number will be chosen.
