Bomb Threat at Horizon Middle School Determined as Not Credible

KEARNEY – A bomb threat at a Kearney middle school was found to be a hoax this morning.

According to a release from Kearney Public Schools, staff found a message on a student’s desk about a bomb and immediately notified the Kearney Police Department. KPD determined the threat to not be credible but still did a thorough sweep of the school and school grounds without turning up a device.

Superintendent Dr. Kent Edwards says, “Kearney Public Schools, in cooperation with Kearney law enforcement, has very specific procedures in place for these circumstances. The Horizon principals should be commended for their quick response.”

KPS is conducting an investigation.
