HASTINGS – The United Way and CASA of South Central Nebraska are teaming up to have a community toy store for families in need. A Time To Play, opened on Wednesday, April 10 and will be open year round so kids can enjoy toys when they are going through difficult situations.
RuAnn Root, the executive director of CASA of South Central Nebraska, says that there is a big need for this in our community.
It is basically for any family that is struggling. Whether it is personal struggles, such as, currently, of course, we all know about the flood victims. We also know that there are families out there that are struggling with, you know, cancer. Or women that are fleeing from domestic violence and had to leave everything behind them. And so if you are a family that are in need of some brand new toys to help kind of transition you. So kids can play and remember that playing is important and can help reduce that trauma of what is going on in your family. Please stop in and check out the toy store, we’d love to be able to help you.
They will give toys to youth up to the age of 19. A Time to Play is located at 835 South Burlington and if you want to schedule an appointment to see the toy store you can call CASA at 402-463-1030.
You can also donate toys to them but they do ask that the toys be new and not hand me downs.
