WHAT IS MOM PROM?
Mom Prom is a ladies’ night out that supports a great cause- MentoringWorks. It’s a chance to get together, dress up, and go out dancing with friends. Mom Prom will be held at C3 Hotel and Convention Center on Friday, May 17th from 7:30-11:30 pm.
Moms and their friends can wear their old prom gowns, bridesmaid dresses, or thrift store finds. Go out to dinner together and then come to C3 for the big event: MOM PROM, a “prom”-style dance with a DJ, drinks, photo booth, and a raffle/silent auction. This is a wonderful night where women can dance the night away, have fun with their friends, and help a worthy cause.
There are Mom Proms all over the country, and we’re so excited to bring one to Hastings again! Last year we were able to raise over $5,000 for The Special Children’s Fund.
So go look for that old dress in the back of your closet (or your friend’s closet) and get ready to have fun while helping others.
ABOUT THIS YEAR’S ORGANIZATION
This year’s featured organization is MentoringWorks. MentoringWorks – formerly Big Brothers Big Sisters – represents how much the city of Hastings cares about kids. This is an organization that depends upon volunteers who take their time to work with kids and try to make a difference in those kids’ lives. Research shows us that mentoring does work, that in fact a significant other in the life of a child really helps those children to be more resilient and increases their chance of success. MentoringWorks focuses on two major programs: SchoolConnect and CareerConnect.
The SchoolConnect program matches elementary school students with a mentor from area high schools and colleges. Mentees and Mentors meet once a week for 30-45 minutes during the school year. Matches are encouraged to be creative together and do activities that they both enjoy. MentoringWorks provides board games and craft supplies for matches at each elementary school.
CareerConnect has been in existence since 2016 (when it started as Beyond School Walls). Initially focused on building an employment pipeline and developing career interest for manufacturing, the program now includes the healthcare industry as well. Forty students from Hastings High School and St. Cecilia’s have applied for the 2018-2019 School Year.
Where do I buy tickets?
Tickets are $25 each and can be purchased online. Like our Page on Facebook at www.facebook.com/HastingsMomProm and purchase your tickets there or go to our Eventbrite page at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/hastings-mom-prom-tickets-58442156062.
What should I wear to Mom Prom?
Dress for Mom Prom is fun and fancy. We would love to see everything from cocktail dresses to poofy gowns and everything in between. Don’t buy anything brand new – if you don’t have anything in your closet you can probably find something great at a local thrift store. Have something vintage? Great! This year we are looking at a Princess theme so get out your crowns and tiaras! Have an old bridesmaid dress? Great! Finally, here’s your chance to wear it again. Have an old prom dress that still fits you? WOW! 🙂
Will there be food?
There will be a few snacks but going out to dinner beforehand, all dressed up, can start the fun even before you get to the dance.
Can I get something to drink at Mom Prom?
Yes – We will have a full cash bar available at our event. Water will always be available for free.
What should I bring?
When you purchase your ticket, it generates a receipt. Print the receipt and bring it with you. Bring some cash to purchase raffle tickets and tip your bartender.
Should I bring my husband/boyfriend?
Not tonight! This is a ladies’ night out. But do ask him if he’ll drive you to and from the event.
Who is organizing Hastings Mom Prom?
Hastings Mom Prom 2018 was organized by Lydia Lough, Lauren Slaughter, and Julie Mullen. We’ve added some help for 2019 with Sara Stroman and Cindy Hahn! Originally we were looking for a good excuse to dress up and go out. Joking about a “Mom’s Night Out” turned into Hastings Mom Prom. Realizing that a good time could help more than just their sanity, they decided to turn the night into a fundraiser.
