As the country mourns the death of former President George H.W. Bush, those who served with him on Capitol Hill are sharing their interactions and memories of the 41st president.
Former Governor and U.S. Senator Bob Kerrey was elected to the U.S. Senate the same year that Bush took the nation’s highest seat in 1989.
He says in an ideal world, more people would be like the former president.
Maybe, you kind of hope. I think its probably false hope that this nostalgic feeling toward President Bush and the kindness of the man, the generosity of the man, the goodness of the man, maybe people begin to say ‘well, can’t we be more like him?’
Kerrey says Bush was a man of service that cared deeply about the country. He was a wonderful human being and we were lucky to have him serve our nation.
