Grand Island Walk to End Alzhiemer’s is This Sunday

HASTINGS – The Grand Island Walk to End Alzheimer’s will be this Sunday at Sucks Lake with registration happening at 12:30 and the walk itself getting underway at 2:00. The Promise Garden Ceremonies will start at 1:45.

On Thursday they will have a kick off event where you can turn in money you’ve raised, get t-shirts and wristbands, and pre-register. The kick off event will be at the Grand Generation, located at 304 East 3rd Street, from 3 to 6.

Braden Manolidis, a member of the planning committee for the Grand Island walk, says there will be food and activities there as well.

Food provided from Runza. Water, chips. There will be some face painting. Games for kids. It’ll be very family friendly. And all of that will be taking part before the race. So come out early, if you can make it, and we’d love to have you.

So far they’ve raised just over $22,000 from the Grand Island walk but there are still under their goal of $50,000 raised. 155 participants and 31 teams have registered so far. The money raised from the walk goes towards Alzheimer’s research and programs the Alzheimer’s Association runs like their free helpline. You can register and donate for the walk at ALZ.org and by clicking on Find Your Walk.

The Hastings walk was two weeks ago and it raised just over $20,000 which did come up short of the $30,000 goal. The Kearney Walk to End Alzheimer’s will be on October 6th at Yanney Park.
