The Nebraska baseball team was held to just three hits in a 10-2 loss to Northwestern yesterday.  Nate Fisher threw 5 2/3 innings for the Huskers and gave up seven runs and nine hits.  Fisher struck out five and walked one.  Aaron Palensky, Cam Chick and Joe Acker had the base hits for the Huskers.  Nebraska is now 23-18 on the season, 12-8 in the conference.  The same two teams will play at 3:30 pm this afternoon.  We’ll have the game on 1230AM KHAS beginning with the pre-game show at 3:00 pm.


The Nebraska softball team lost to Wisconsin 4-2 yesterday.  The Huskers went 1-2 against the Badgers over the weekend.  Nebraska is now 21-30, 9-14 in the league.  They’ll play Illinois in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament on Thursday beginning at 12:30 pm.


Jamestown will play at Concordia for the GPAC Baseball Championship tomorrow night.  The Jimmies won the Jamestown bracket on Saturday with a 9-6 win over Northwestern while the Bulldogs won the Concordia bracket by knocking off Doane 6-4.


Morningside won the GPAC Softball Championship on Saturday by beating Jamestown in the championship series two games to one.


The Concordia women and the Doane men won team championships at the Great Plains Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships over the weekend in Yankton, South Dakota.  The Hastings women were second while the men were seventh.  Shantinique Cunningham won the title in the 100 meter dash and the 200 for the Broncos.  Karsen Keech was first in the 5000 meter run and Keeley Parish claimed the title in the hammer throw.  The Broncos 4×100 meter relay team also won the championship in a school record time of 46.86.  On the men’s side Justin Villars was first in the discus and Grant Wickham won the javelin.


The Nebraska-Kearney men tied for fifth while the women were 12th at the MIAA Outdoor Championships in Warrensburg, Missouri.  Central Missouri won the men’s championship while Pittsburg State won the women’s title.


The season is over for the Tri City Storm after being swept by the Sioux Falls Stampede in the Western Conference Finals.  The Storm lost Game Three 3-2 Friday night in Sioux Falls.


Arizona beat the Nebraska Danger 54-46 on Saturday.  The Danger is now 5-5 and will be off until May 18th when they play at Sioux Falls.


The Hastings High baseball team will play Omaha Skutt tonight for the B-5 district championship.  The Tigers beat Omaha Gross 13-1 on Saturday while Skutt knocked off Arlington 6-5.  First pitch will be at 4:30 pm in Omaha.


Kearney and Grand Island have advanced to the state tournament.  The Bearcats beat Millard North and Millard West on Saturday to win the A-1 district championship while the Islanders beat Bellevue West and Omaha Creighton Prep to win the A-5 crown.  The state baseball tournament gets underway on Saturday in Lincoln.


The Hastings High girls beat Lexington 1-0 on Saturday to win the B-6 district soccer championship.  The Tigers will play Omaha Mercy this Friday at 3:00 pm in the first round of the state tournament in Omaha.  On the boys side, Kearney will play Papillion LaVista at 9:00 am on Wednesday.  Northwest will battle Crete at 8:00 pm on Wednesday night.  Lexington will play Omaha Roncalli on Thursday at 6:00 pm in the first round of the state tournament.


NBA> In the NBA playoffs yesterday, Toronto beat Philadelphia 101-96.  That best f seven series is tied two games apiece.  In the other game, Denver got by Portland 116-112.  That series is tied at two games apiece.


NHL> In the NHL playoffs, St. Louis beat Dallas 4-1 to force a seventh and deciding game in that series.
