The Nebraska men’s basketball team will play their final game of their Italian Tour today with a game against the Italian Select.  The Huskers have won all three of their games on the summer tour.  Tip-off for today’s game is set for noon, local time.

 

The Nebraska women’s basketball team completed a perfect three game summer trip through Italy and Spain with a 94-77 win over the Barcelona All Stars on Friday.  The Huskers will have two weeks off before the start of fall semester classes at Nebraska on August 26th.

 

The Nebraska women’s soccer team beat Omaha 4-0 in an exhibition game on Saturday night in Lincoln.  The Huskers will have another exhibition game at Arkansas on Thursday before starting the season on August 30th at Kansas.

 

The Nebraska football team will begin their second week of pre-season practice today.  Head coach Scott Frost says the team is vastly improved over last year.  He says the team is having fun and is a fun team to coach.  Nebraska will open the season on August 31st at home against South Alabama.  Kickoff is set for 11:00am.

 

Practice is underway for the Nebraska volleyball team.  The Huskers have made four straight Final Four appearances.  Nebraska will open the season with games against Creighton and UCLA in the Husker Invitational on August 30th and 31st.

 

Festus of Missouri beat Bryant of Arkansas 8-3 yesterday to win the Mid South Regional Baseball Tournament at Duncan Field.  Festus scored six runs in the fifth inning.  Festus is now 36-12-1 on the season and will play in the American Legion World Series beginning Thursday in Shelby, North Carolina.  The other teams qualifying for the World Series include Albuquerque, Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, Randolph County, North Carolina, Destrehan, Louisiana, Danville, Illinois, Fargo, North Dakota and Idaho Falls, Idaho.

 

Earlier in the day, Bryant scored two runs in the sixth inning to beat Hastings Five Points Bank 3-2.  Mike Boeve was the losing pitcher after throwing two innings of relief.  Hastings could manage only five hits in the game. Hastings ends the season 35-15.

 

ROYALS> The Kansas City Royals beat the Detroit Tigers 10-2 yesterday.  The Royals are now 43-76 on the season and will host the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday.  First pitch will be at 7:15pm.  Pre-game show begins at 6:30pm on “The Breeze” KLIQ 94.5FM.

 

NASCAR> Kevin Harvick won the NASCAR race yesterday at Michigan International Speedway.  It was his second win of the season.  Denny Hamlin was second followed by Kyle Larson, Martin Truex Junior and Daniel Suarez.
