Local Sports 1-11-2019

Behind a career high 22 points from Isaiah Roby, Nebraska snapped a two game losing streak with a 70-64 win over Penn State last night at Pinnacle Bank Arena.  Roby had 22 points on 8 of 9 shooting and added eleven rebounds and four blocked shots.  Glynn Watson Junior added 19 points while James Palmer Junior added 11.  Nebraska hit 49 percent of their field goals in the game, including 9 of 23 from three point range.  It’s the 20th consecutive home win for the Huskers.  Nebraska is now 12-4 on the season, 2-3 in the Big Ten Conference.  They’ll play at Indiana on Monday.  Tip-off will be at 5:30pm.

 

The Nebraska women’s basketball team will host Rutgers on Sunday.  The Huskers are 7-8 on the season, 2-2 in the conference after Tuesday’s 81-63 loss to Maryland.  The Scarlet Knights are 12-3, 4-0 in the conference.  They’ve won seven games in a row including a road win at Maryland and home victories over Penn State and Northwestern.  Tip-off will be at 2:00pm.  We’ll have the game on 1230AM KHAS and “The Breeze,’ KLIQ 94.5FM beginning with the pre-game show at 1:45pm.

 

The Hastings College basketball teams will play at Mount Marty tomorrow.  The Bronco men will be trying to snap a three game losing streak while the women will try to bounce back from Wednesday’s 102-85 loss to Concordia. The women’s game will be at 2:00pm with the men to follow at 4:00pm.  We’ll have the action on 1230AM KHAS beginning with the pre-game show at 1:45pm

 

The Nebraska-Kearney men’s basketball team lost to Central Oklahoma 77-70 last night at the Health and Sports Center.  Kannon Koster led the Lopers with 19 points.  Kyle Juhl had 18.  UNK is now 5-9 on the season, 0-5 in the MIAA.

 

The UNK women beat Central Oklahoma 74-58.  Brook Carlson led the Lopers with 17 points and 9 rebounds.  Kelsey Sanger had 15 points.  UNK is now 9-5, 2-3 in the conference.  Both teams will play host to Northeastern State on Saturday.

 

The St. Cecilia boys basketball team beat Minden 43-40 last night.  The Hawks sealed the game by hitting 5 of 6 free throws in the fourth quarter.  Ashton Valentine led the way with 23 points.  St. Cecilia is now 6-7 on the season.  Minden falls to 3-9.

 

The St. Cecilia girls jumped out to a 21-8 first quarter lead and went on to beat the Whippets 71-29.  Natlie Kissinger hit five three pointers and finished with 15 points.  Bailey Kissinger had 14 points.  St. Cecilia is now 12-1.  Minden falls to 6-7.

 

Elsewhere in boys basketball last night, Centura beat Shelton 76-50, Kearney Catholic got by Broken Bow 53-49, Ravenna stopped Central City 67-40 and Sutton defeated Wood River 49-34.

 

In girls basketball, Centura rolled past Shelton 58-15, Kearney Catholic edged Broken Bow 48-45 and Ravenna beat Central City 63-57.
