Local Sports 1-14-2019

The Nebraska men’s basketball team will play at Indiana tonight.  The Huskers are 12-4 on the season 2-3 in the Big Ten Conference.  The Hoosiers are 12-4, 3-3 in the conference.  As a team, Indiana shoots a Big Ten best 52 percent from the field, including 36 percent from three point range, while holding foes to 41 percent shooting.  The Hoosiers also hold opponents to under 30 percent from beyond the arc and average more than six steals per contest.  Tip-off will be at 5:30pm.  We’ll have it on 1230AM KHAS and “The Breeze,” KLIQ 94.5FM beginning with the pre-game show at 4:30pm.

 

The Nebraska women’s basketball team lost to Rutgers 62-56 on Sunday at Pinnacle Bank Arena.  Leigha Brown scored a game high 18 points for the Huskers while adding a career high six rebounds.  Nebraska is now 7-9 on the season, 2-3 in the conference.  They’ll play at Illinois on Thursday.

 

Shane Chamberlain scored a career high 20 points to lead the Hastings College men’s basketball team to a 66-62 win over Mount Marty on Saturday afternoon in Yankton, South Dakota.  Chamberlain hit 7 of 13 shots including 4 of 9 from behind the arc.  Bart Hiscock chipped in with 11 points and 10 rebounds.  Hastings is now 13-7 on the season, 6-6 in the conference.  They’ll play at Doane on Wednesday.

 

Mount Marty upset the Hastings College women’s basketball team 80-70 in overtime on Saturday.  Kaitlyn Schmit forced the extra session with a three pointer with: 17 seconds to play.  Schmit finished with a career high 18 points.  Mackenzie Willicott had 15 points.  The Broncos are now 10-9 on the season, 6-7 in the conference.  They’ll also play at Doane on Wednesday.

 

The Hastings College wrestling team went 1-2 at the Bronco Duals on Saturday.  The Broncos lost to Morningside and Northern New Mexico Highlands before capping the day with a win against York.  Hastings will compete in the Missouri Valley Invite on Friday.

 

The Nebraska-Kearney basketball teams played Northeastern State on Saturday.  The men lost to the Hawks 70-61 while the women beat Northeastern State 80-72.  UNK will play at Washburn on Wednesday.

 

The Adams Central boys basketball team beat Doniphan/Trumbull 66-38 on Saturday.  The Patriots are now 10-3.  St. Cecilia lost to Kearney Catholic 51-37. The Stars are now 12-1.  The Hawks fall to 6-8.  In girls basketball, Adams Central got by Doniphan/Trumbull 47-46.  The Patriots are now 11-3.  St. Cecilia edged Kearney Catholic 69-47.  The Hawkettes are now 13-1.  The Stars are 8-5.

 

NFL>  In the NFL yestedrday, New England beat the Los Angeles Chargers 41-28 and New Orleans got by Philadelphia 20-14.  In the Conference Championship games on Sunday, the Los Angeles Rams play at New Orleans in the first game at 2:05pm followed by New England at Kansas City at 5:40pm.

 

In college basketball yesterday, Villanova beat Creighton 90-78.  In the Big Ten, Michigan State beat Penn State 71-56 and Michigan topped Northwestern 80-60.
