Local Sports 10-11-2019

The Nebraska football team is getting ready to play Minnesota tomorrow night in Minneapolis,  The Huskers are 4-2 on the season.  The Gophers are 5-0.  We still don’t know if starting quarterback Adrian Martinez or wide receiver JD Spielman will be available for the game.  Both were injured in last weeks 13-10 win over Northwestern.  Kickoff will be at 6:30pm.  Pre-game coverage begins at 1:30pm on “The Breeze,” KLIQ 94.5FM.

 

The Nebraska volleyball team will host a pair of games this weekend.  The Huskers will play Michigan State tonight and Michigan on Sunday.   We’ll have Sunday’s match on “The Breeze,” KLIQ 94.5FM.  First serve will be at 1:00pm.  Pre-game show begins at 12:30pm.

 

The Nebraska women’s soccer team will host Maryland tonight and Rutgers on Sunday.

 

It’s Homecoming Week at Hastings College.  The football team will play Midland tomorrow beginning at 1:00pm.  Pre-game show begins at 12:00pm on 1230AM KHAS.  The volleyball team will play host to Morningside beginning at 3:00pm.  The men’s and women’s soccer teams will play Concordia at 5:30pm and 8:00pm.

 

The Nebraska-Kearney football team will play at Lincoln University on Saturday.  The volleyball team will host Missouri Western State tonight.  First serve will be at 6:00pm at the Health and Sports Center.

 

The Tri City Storm picked up their first win of the season with a 4-1 win over Sioux Falls last night at the Viaero Center.  The Storm will play at Waterloo on Saturday.  Face off will be at 7:05pm.

 

Hastings St. Cecilia won a pair of matches last night in the Centennial Conference Volleyball Tournament.  The Hawkettes beat Kearney Catholic 25-18, 25-15 and Archbishop Bergen 25-20, 25-19.  St. Cecilia is now 25-2 and will play Omaha-Concordia on Saturday.  In some other games, Grand Island Central Catholic beat Columbus Scotus and Lincoln Christian and Lincoln Lutheran defeated Kearney Catholic.

 

Elsewhere, Hastings High beat Aurora 25-21, 23-25, 26-24, 25-21.  The Tigers are now 18-7. Bellevue East swept Grand Island, Fillmore Central beat Sandy Creek, St. Paul knocked off Doniphan/Trumbull, Superior beat Heartland and Sutton defeated David City and Fairbury.

 

Rain washed out all the softball action yesterday.  Hastings High will play Blair in the district finals tomorrow at the Smith Complex.  The three game series begins at noon.  Adams Central will play at Wayne beginning at 1:00pm.  St. Cecilia will play Central City in the winner’s bracket final of the C-4 District Tournament tomorrow at noon at the Smith Complex.

 

MLB> It’ll be the Houston Astros against the New York Yankees in the American League Championship Series.  The Astros beat Tampa Bay 6-1 last night to lock up the Division Series 3-2.  Game one of the champioinship series is set for Saturday night in Houston.

 

The National League Championship series gets underway tonight as Washington plays at St. Louis.  First pitch will be at 7:08pm.

 

NFL> In the NFL last night, New England beat the New York Giants 35-14.  Tom Brady had two rushing touchdowns and moved ahead of Peyton Manning for second place on the NFL’s all time passing list.  New England is now 6-0.  New York falls to 2-4.
