Local Sports 10-4-2019

The Nebraska football team will battle Northwestern tomorrow at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln.  Six of the eight meetings between the two schools have been decided by seven or fewer points.  Northwestern has won the last two games in overtime.  The Wildcats have a strong defense, allowing just 318.8 yards and 21.5 points per game.  Kickoff will be at 3:00pm.  Pre-game coverage begins at 10:00am on “The Breeze,” KLIQ 94.5FM.

 

The 2023 non conference football schedule has been completed with the addition of a game against Louisiana Tech on September 23rd of 2023.  The Huskers will also play Colorado and Northern Illinois that year.  Nebraska’s 2021 matchup with Northern Illinois has been moved to the 2027 season.

 

The Nebraska volleyball team will host Wisconsin tomorrow night.  First serve will be at 7:00pm.  We’ll have it on 1230AM KHAS beginning with the pre-game show at 6:30pm.

 

The Nebraska women’s soccer team lost to Iowa 1-0 last night.  The Huskers are now 3-7-2 on the season and will play at Michigan on Sunday.

 

The Hastings College football team will play number one ranked Morningside tomorrow at Lloyd Wilson Field.  The Mustangs have not lost a game since suffering a loss in the semifinals of the NAIA national playoffs in 2017.  Morningside has an explosive offense that is averaging 62 points and 618 yards per game.  Kickoff will be at 1:00pm.  Pre-game show begins at noon on 1230AM KHAS.

 

The Hastings College volleyball team will play at the College of St. Mary’s tomorrow.  First serve will be at 3:00pm.  The men’s and women’s soccer teams will host Jamestown at Lloyd Wilson Field.  The women’s game is at 5:30pm with the men to follow at 8:00pm.

 

The St. Cecilia volleyball team split two games at the St. Cecilia Tournament last night.  The Hawkettes lost to Superior 23-25, 25-20, 24-26.  St. Cecilia beat Lawrence Nelson 25-17, 25-22.  They are now 20-3 on the season and will play in the Southern Valley Triangular on Monday.

 

In other action, Grand Island Central Catholic beat Northwest, Kearney Catholic defeated Ord and Lincoln High beat Grand Island.

 

The St. Cecilia softball team beat Blue Hill 6-1 yesterday.  Natalie Kissinger was the winning pitcher.  She allowed three hits and struck out 11.  Tayelor Butler had three hits.  St. Cecilia is now 22-7 and will begin district play next week.

 

In other action, North Platte took two from Northwest 14-4 and 4-2.  Kearney Catholic beat Minden 12-2.

 

MLB> In the National League Division Series last night, St. Louis got by Atlanta 7-6 and the LA Dodgers shut out Washington 6-0.  Today Tampa Bay will play at Houston, St. Louis is at Atlanta and Minnesota is at the New York Yankees.

 

NFL> In the NFL last night, Seattle got by the Los Angeles Rams 30-29.
