Local Sports 10-7-2019

Alabama is still ranked number one in the latest AP College Football Poll.  The Crimson Tide are 5-0 on the season and did not play over the weekend.  Alabama will play at Texas A & M on Saturday.  Clemson is second in this week’s poll.  Ohio State and Georgia are tied for third.  LSU is fifth.  Rounding out the top ten are Oklahoma, Florida, Wisconsin, Notre Dame and Penn State.

 

The Nebraska football team is now 4-2 on the season after Saturday’s 13-10 win over Northwestern.  Walk on placekicker Lane McCallum won it with a 24 yard field goal as time expired.  Nebraska will play at Minnesota on Saturday.  Kickoff will be at 6:30pm.  Pre-game coverage begins at 1:30pm on “The Breeze,’ KLIQ 94.5FM.

 

The Nebraska volleyball team was swept by Wisconsin Saturday night at the Devaney Center.  The scores were 22-25, 21-25, 22-25.  Nebraska is now 11-2 on the season, 3-1 in the conference.  The Huskers will host Michigan State and Michigan this weekend.

 

The Nebraska women’s soccer team lost to Michigan 4-1 yesterday.  The Huskers are now 3-8-2 and will host Maryland on Friday.

 

The Hastings College football team lost to Morningside 69-13 on Saturday at Lloyd Wilson Field.  The Mustangs outgained the Broncos 637-249.  Hastings is now 2-3 on the season, 1-3 in the conference.  They’ll play host to Midland on Saturday.  Kickoff will be at 1:00pm.

 

The College of St. Mary’s beat the Hastings College volleyball team on Saturday in Omaha.  The scores were 21-25, 25-23, 19-25, 25-21,16-14.  Lucy Skoch had a career high 17 kills for the Broncos.  Hastings is now 8-9 on the season, 3-4 in the conference.  They’ll play host to Midland on Wednesday.  First serve will be at 7:30pm.

 

The Hastings College soccer teams beat Jamestown on Saturday.  The women won 5-1 while the men shut out the Jimmies 5-0.  Both teams will play at Doane on Wednesday.

 

The UNK football team beat Northeastern State 45-10 on Saturday.  The Lopers are now 3-2 on the season and will play at Lincoln University on Saturday.  The volleyball team improved to 15-0 on the season with wins over Central Missouri and Northwest Missouri State.  UNK will host Fort Hays State on Tuesday.

 

The B-8 subdistrict softball tournament gets underway today at the Smith Complex.  At 4:00pm, Hastings High will play St. Paul and Adams Central will battle Northwest.

 

The B-3 District golf tournament will be held today at the York Country Club.  The Adams Central and Hastings High girls will be competing along with Aurora, Gothenburg, Holdrege Lexington, Northwest and York.

 

MLB> In the Major League Baseball playoffs yesterday, Atlanta beat St. Louis 3-1.  The Braves led the series 2-1.  The Los Angeles Dodgers beat Washington 10-4.  The Dodgers lead the series 2-1.

 

NFL> In NFL football last night, Indianapolis beat Kansas City 19-13.  Tonight, its Cleveland at San Francisco.
