The Nebraska volleyball team will play Hofstra tonight in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. The Huskers will be making their 37th straight NCAA Tournament appearance. They are 24-6 on the season. Hofstra will be making their ninth tournament appearance after winning the Colonial Athletic Association. They are
25-7. First serve will be at 7:00pm. We’ll have it on “The Breeze,” KLIQ 94.5FM beginning with the pre-game show at 6:04pm. In the other game, Arizona will play Missouri. The two winners will play on Saturday at 7:00pm.
Louisville beat the Nebraska women’s basketball team 85-68 last night in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Maddie Simon had 16 points for the Huskers. Hannah Whitish had 15. Nebraska is now 2-4 on the season and will play at Creighton on Sunday. Tip-off will be at 1:00pm. We’ll have it on 1230AM KHAS beginning with the pre-game show at 12:45pm.
Redshirt freshman linebacker Guy Thomas is leaving the Nebraska football team. Thomas has been granted his release and plans to transfer. He redshirted in 2017 and played in four games this fall and logged four tackles. His departure leaves just ten players from Nebraska’s 2017 recruiting class, which started with 20. Thomas joins a list of departures that includes quarterback Tristan Gebbia, receivers Tyjon Lindsey and Keyshawn Johnson Junior, linebackers Avery Roberts, Willie Hampton and Andrew Ward and fullback Ben Miles.
Hastings College will play third ranked Columbia College today in the Round of 16 at the NAIA National Volleyball Championships in Sioux City. The Broncos took down 4th ranked Missouri Baptist yesterday in the final game of pool play. The scores were 25-21, 19-25, 17-25, 25-16, 15-3. Alley Ginkens led the Broncos with ten kills. First serve will be at 11:15am. Northwestern, Dordt and Midland have also advanced to the Round of 16.
High school basketball season got started lastnight. Connor Creech scored 23 points to lead the Hastings High to a 51-40 win over Seward. Jacob Schroeder pitched in with 12. Adams Central could not overcome a 14-4 first quarter deficit and lost to Aurora 64-55. Haggan Hilgendorf scored 22 points for the Patriots. Thomas Hunt had 15. St. Cecilia got by Columbus Scotus 35-33. Ashton Valentine had 15 points, six rebounds and five steals for the Hawks.
In some other games, Bellevue West edged Kearney 44-41, Harvard beat Giltner 47-42, Kenesaw rolled past Blue Hill 56-20, St. Paul downed Gibbon 55-41 and Wood River knocked off Sandy Creek 53-31, In the I-80 Shootout, Papillion LaVista beat Grand Island 51-49.
In girls play, Hastings High lost to Seward 49-33, Adams Central beat Aurora 48-31 and St. Cecilia knocked off Scotus 46-33.
In other action, Grand Island Central Catholic got by Lincoln Lutheran 39-29, Kearney beat Bellevue West 52-41, Blue Hill rolled past Kenesaw 54-24, Giltner beat Harvard 58-20, Minden stopped Southern Valley 48-34, St. Paul blasted Gibbon 67-24, Superior thumped Sutton 60-26 and Wood River beat Sandy Creek 64-28. In the I-80 Shootout, Papillion LaVista beat Grand Island 57-32.
