The Nebraska women’s basketball team will be the number six seed for this weeks Big Ten Tournament in Indianapolis and will play either Illinois or Purdue on Thursday at 7:30pm in the Bankers Life Fieldhouse. The Huskers are 14-15 on the season. They finished 9-9 in the conference. Maryland, Iowa, Rutgers and Michigan are the top four seeds. The championship game is set for Sunday.
The Nebraska men’s basketball team will wrap up the regular season with a pair of games this week against nationally ranked opponents. The Huskers will play at Michigan State tomorrow and will host Iowa on Sunday. Nebraska is 15-14 on the season, 5-13 in the conference.
The Nebraska baseball team went 1-1 in the Frisco Classic in Texas over the weekend. The Huskers beat 3rd ranked Texas Tech 2-1 on Friday but lost to Sam Houston State 11-10 on Saturday. Sunday’s game against 12th ranked Mississippi State was cancelled because of cold weather and travel restrictions. Nebraska is now 4-6 on the season. The Tuesday home opener against UNO has been postponed. They’ll go on the road to play Baylor this weekend.
The Nebraska softball team went 2-1 in the Colorado State Classic.; They had two games canceled because of the weather. The Huskers are 10-6 on the season and will play a doubleheader at Wichita State on Saturday.
Weather is also causing a problem for the Hastings College baseball and softball teams. The baseball team has canceled games against Mayville State, Sterling and Missouri Valley in the past week. They’re hoping to play Kansas Wesleyan next Tuesday at Duncan Field before hosting Doane in the conference opener on March 16th. The softball team has had nine games canceled by the weather. They took off and played in a tournament in Grand Prairie, Texas over the weekend and won three of four games. The Broncos are now 3-5 on the season and hope to play in the McPherson Tournament this weekend.
The Nebraska-Kearney basketball teams wrapped up the regular season by dropping games to Missouri Southern State on Saturday. The men lost to the Lions 104-67 while the women dropped a 59-56 decision. The UNK women advance to the MIAA Tournament in Kansas City. The Lopers will play Missouri Western on Wednesday in the opening round. Tip-off will be at 6:00pm.
Millard North, Grand Island Northwest, Bishop Neumann, Hastings St. Cecilia, Archbishop Bergen and Wynot won championships at the girls state tournament in Lincoln on Saturday. The boys state tournament begins on Thursday.
