Local Sports 4-10-2019

The Nebraska baseball team was held to four hits in a 10-2 loss to Creighton last night at Hawks Field. It marks the Huskers first loss at home this season after eight wins. Nebraska used eight pitchers to get through the game.  Freshman left hander Kyle Perry made his fifth start of the season and lasted just 2 1/3 innings.  He gave up five runs and four hits with four strikeouts and one walk, Creighton is now 17-7 on the season.  Nebraska falls to 17-10.  The Huskers will play at Penn State this weekend.


The Nebraska softball team lost to Creighton 9-1 last night in Omaha.  The Huskers scored first, but the Bluejays scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning with the help of three home runs and never looked back.  Creighton is now 12-17 on the season.  Nebraska is 13-23.  The Huskers will play at Purdue this weekend.


The Hastings College baseball team broke an 11 game losing streak with a 4-3 win over York College last night at Duncan Field.  Billy McGuire and Keegan Thurston limited the Panthers to just six base hits in the game.  York stranded 16 base runners, including 11 in the final five innings.  Kasey Ohnoutka had two hits and three rbi’s for the Broncos.  Jayden Stack also had two hits.  Hastings is now 7-21 on the season and will play host to Nebraska Wesleyan tonight beginning at 6:00pm.  We’ll have the game on 1230AM KHAS beginning with the pre-game show at 5:45pm.


Nebraska-Kearney hit six home runs to sweep a doubleheader from the Hastings College softball team last night 12-2 in six innings and 8-6.  The Lopers are now 14-18 on the season.  The Broncos fall to 10-16.  Hastings will play at Dakota Wesleyan on Friday and at Jamestown on Saturday.


Kearney scored nine runs in the first inning and went on to beat the Hastings High baseball team 13-3 in five innings last night at Memorial Field.  The Tigers walked ten batters in the game, hit three others and had three errors in the field.  Kearney is now 7-3.  Hastings falls to 8-2.  The Tigers will play at Ralston on Friday.


In boy’s high school soccer from last night, North Platte beat Hastings High 6-0.  The Tigers are now 4-5.  In some other games, Columbus Scotus beat Kearney Catholic 5-0 and Holdrege downed Madison 2-0,


In girl’s soccer, North Platte beat Hastings 4-2.  The Tigers are now 6-2. Elsewhere, Columbus Scotus beat Kearney Catholic 4-0, Kearney got by Lincoln Southeast 4-1 and Columbus Lakeview beat York 6-0.


The Seattle Mariners beat the Kansas City Royals 6-3 last night.  The Royals have now lost eight straight after opening the season 2-0.  The same two teams will play at 7:15pm tonight.  Pre-game show begins at 6:30pm on “The Breeze,” KLIQ 94.5FM.


In a stunning move, Magic Johnson announced last night that he was stepping down as the president of basketball operations for the Los Angeles Lakers after just two years on the job.  The Lakers finished the season 37-45 after going 35-47 last season.
