Local Sports 4-22-2019

The Nebraska baseball team managed to salvage the final game of their series with Iowa, winning 3-2 yesterday in Iowa City.  Reece Eddins went seven innings and allowed only one run and four hits.  He walked one and struck out two.  Spencer Schwellenbach hit a home run for the Huskers.  Nebraska is now 22-13, 11-4 in the conference.  They’ll play Creighton tomorrow night at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha.  First pitch will be at 6:35pm.  We’ll have the game on ESPN 1550 KICS beginning with the pre-game show at 6:04pm.


Number 18 Minnesota completed the weekend sweep on Sunday over Nebraska with a 9-3 victory at Bowlin Stadium.  The Huskers are now 15-27 on the season, 4-11 in the conference.  They’ll play host to South Dakota on Tuesday.


The Nebraska volleyball team beat Colorado State in their spring game on Saturday in McCook.  The scores were 25-13, 25-17, 23-25, 25-12.  Jazz Sweet led the Huskers with 17 kills, Madi Kubik had 15.


The Hastings College baseball team went 1-1 on Saturday beating Dordt 13-1 before falling to Mount Marty 5-1 in game two.  Hastings is now 8-28 on the season, 3-20 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference.  They’ll play at York on Tuesday.


The Hastings College softball team split a pair of games from Concordia on Saturday winning the first game 1-0 before dropping the nightcap 1-0.  Hastings is now 13-21, 5-11 in the conference.  They’ll play at Morningside this afternoon.  First pitch will be at 2:00pm.


The Hastings College women’s tennis team won the Great Plains Athletic Conference regular season championship on Saturday with a 5-4 win over Midland.  The Broncos were 7-0 in the conference duals this year.  Hastings will play in the GPAC Post Season Tournament this weekend in Fremont.


The UNK softball team won three of four games over the weekend.  The Lopers swept Southwest Baptist on Friday and  split a pair of games from Central Missouri on Saturday.  UNK will play at Fort Hays State on Saturday and will wrap up the regular season on Sunday by hosting a pair of games with Fort Hays State on Sunday.


The Hastings High baseball team will play at Lincoln Pius today.  The Tigers are 11-5 on the season after losing to Grand Island 10-6 on Friday.  The Thunderbolts are 5-9.  First pitch will be at 4:30pm.


The Tri City Storm beat Des Moines 2-0 on Saturday to take a 2-0 lead in the Western Conference Semifinal series.  Game three is Tuesday night in Des Moines.

The Nebraska Danger beat Green Bay 47-40 on Saturday.  The Danger are now 4-4 and will play Cedar Rapids on Friday.


The New York Yankees beat the Kansas City Royals 7-6 yesterday. The Royals are now 7-15 on the season. Kansas City will play at Tampa Bay tonight beginning at 6:10pm. Pre-game show begins at 5:30pm on “The Breeze,’ KLIQ 94.5FM.


In the NBA playoffs yesterday, Boston beat Indiana 110-106.  The Celtics win the series 4-0.  Golden State got by the LA Clippers 113-105.  The Warriors lead that series 3-1.  The Toronto Raptors beat Orlando 107-85.  Toronto lead that series 3-1 and Portland beat Oklahoma City 111-98.  The Trailblazers lead the series 3-1.


In the NHL playoffs, Boston beat Toronto 4-2.  That series is tied at three games apiece.  The San Jose Sharks got by Las Vegas 2-1.  That series is also tied at three games apiece.
