The newly named head football coach at Hastings St. Cecilia Tyler Hedlund has been placed on leave effective immediately, while Hastings Police investigate accusations of a reported inappropriate sexual relationship with a student.  No arrest or citations have been issued. Hedlund was named the head coach of the Hawks on March 5th.  He’s in his first year of teaching with the Hastings Catholic School system.


The Nebraska baseball team will play Creighton tonight at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha.  The Huskers are 22-13 on the season after winning one of three games at Iowa over the weekend.  The Bluejays are 22-8.  The two teams have split their two games this season with the road team winning each time.  First pitch will be at 7:00pm.  We’ll have it on ESPN 1550 KICS beginning with the pre-game show at 6:04pm.


The Nebraska softball team begins one of its busiest weeks of the season, playing six games against three different opponents in the next six days.  The Huskers begin the week by hosting South Dakota this afternoon.  First pitch will be at 4:00pm.  The Huskers will play a doubleheader at Iowa on Wednesday before returning home for a three game series against Maryland this weekend.


Nebraska head men’s basketball coach Fred Hoiberg announced the addition of graduate transfer Haanif Cheatham to the Nebraska basketball roster for the 2019-2020 campaign.  Cheatham is a 6-foot-6, 195 pound guard from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, totaling nearly 850 points in his college career playing at Marquette and Florida Gulf Coast.  He has made 73 career Division I starts, including 63 in two plus seasons at Marquette.  He spent last season at Florida Gulf Coast and averaged 13.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game.


The Hastings College baseball team will play a non conference game at York College tonight.  The Broncos are 8-28 on the season and beat York 4-3 earlier this month in Hastings.  First pitch will be at 5:30pm.


The Hastings High baseball team beat Lincoln Pius 2-1 last night.  Sam Wibbels struck out 18 batters in 6 2/3 innings.  Jacob Schroeder had two hits.  Hastings is 12-5 on the season and will play Grand Island tonight in a doubleheader at Duncan Field.  First pitch will be at 5:00pm.  We’ll have the action on 1230AM KHAS beginning with the pre-game show at 4:45pm.  In other action, Bellevue East will play at Kearney.  First pitch at 4:30pm.   We’ll have the game on ESPN 1460 KXPN beginning at 4:15pm.


In boys high school soccer last night, Columbus Scotus beat Hastings High 2-1.  The Tigers are now 4-9 on the season.  In some other games, Grand Island beat Lincoln Northeast 4-1, Kearney shut out Lincoln High 2-0, Kearney Catholic got by Gering 2-1 in a shootout, Scottsbluff beat Kearney Catholic 4-2.


In girls soccer, Columbus Scotus beat Hastings High 2-1.  The Tigers are 8-4.  In some other games, Gering beat Kearney Catholic 1-0 in a shootout, but the Stars beat Scottsbluff 3-1.


Hastings College will be the number one seed for the Great Plains Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis Tournament that gets underway on Friday in Fremont.  The Broncos won the regular season championship with a 7-0 mark and receive a first round bye.  Hastings will play either Morningside or Northwestern in the semifinals.


Doane will be the number one seed for the men’s tournament.  The Tiger men were tri champions of the regular season along with Hastings and Midland.  The Broncos will play either Midland or Northwestern in the semifinals.


The GPAC Golf Championships resume today at the Dakota Dunes Country Club.  Northwestern has the team lead after the first two rounds last fall at the Willow Run Golf Course in Sioux Falls.  The Red Raiders have a score of 568.  Morningside is second with a 574.  Midland is third with a 583.  Hastings is 8th with a 621.  Caleb Badura of Northwestern has the individual lead with a 138.  Matt Rees of Hastings is tied for 27th with a 152.


The Kansas City Royals lost to Tampa Bay 6-3 last night.  The same two teams will play at 6:10pm tonight.  Pre-game show begins at 5:30pm on “The Breeze,” KLIQ 94.5FM.
