Local Sports 4-4-2019

Texas will play Libscomb tonight in the NIT Finals. The Longhorns beat TCU 58-44 in the semifinals on Tuesday while the Bison knocked off Wichita State 71-64. Tip-off will be at 6:00pm. We’ll have coverage on ESPN 1550 KICS.

The semifinals in the NCAA Women’s Tournament will be held tomorrow night. At 6:00pm, Oregon will play Baylor followed by UConn against Notre Dame at 8:00pm. The semifinals of the NCAA Men’s Tournament will take place on Saturday. At 5:09pm, Auburn will play Virginia followed by Texas Tech and Michigan State at 7:49pm.

Four star wide receiver Zavier Betts of Bellevue West has committed to Nebraska. The 6-foot-2, 189 pound Betts is the top ranked 2020 prospect in the state according to the 247 Sports Composite rankings and is ranked 91st nationally. He caught 48 passes for 856 yards and 12 touchdowns as a junior. Betts chose the Huskers over offers from Minnesota, Iowa, Iowa State and South Dakota State.

Two Nebraska athletes have been honored by the Big Ten Conference. Chase Wolinski has been named the women’s Field Athlete of the Week and Tanner Owen has been named the men’s Golfer of the Week. Wolinski won the Javelin title at the Texas Relays last week while Owen finished in a tie for 19th in a field of 132 golfers at “The Goodwin” in Palo Alto, California.

The Hastings College baseball team had their game with Nebraska Wesleyan called off last night. They’ll make it up next Wednesday beginning at 6:00pm at Duncan Field. The Broncos will play at Morningside on Saturday and at Midland on Sunday. The Hastings College softball team will also be in action this weekend. The Broncos will host Dordt on Friday and Northwestern on Saturday.

The Hastings High baseball team will battle Wahoo/Bishop Neumann/Lincoln Lutheran today at Duncan Field. The Tigers are 4-1 on the season after dropping a 7-6 decision to Seward on Tuesday. Wahoo/Bishop Neumann/Lincoln Lutheran is 5-1 after losing to Omaha Roncalli 11-9. First pitch will be at 4:30. We’ll have it on 1230AM KHAS beginning with the pre-game show at 4:15pm.

In other action, Grand Island will play at Kearney. The Islanders are 4-2 on the season. The Bearcats are 4-1. First pitch will be at 4:00pm. We’ll have coverage on ESPN 1460 KXPN and at platteriverpreps.com

The Minnesota Twins beat the Kansas City Royals 7-6 yesterday. The Royals are now 2-3 on the season. The same two teams play at 12:10pm this afternoon. We’ll have the game on ESPN Tri Cities.
