Local Sports 4-9-2019

The Nebraska baseball team will play Creighton tonight at Hawks Field in Lincoln.  The Huskers have won 11 out of their last 13 games and are 17-9 on the season, including a perfect 8-0 record at home.  The Bluejays are 16-7.  This will be the second meeting of the season between the two teams.  Nebraska beat Creighton 6-3 on March 26th at TD Ameritrade Park.  First pitch will be at 6:32pm.  We’ll have coverage on ESPN 1550 KICS.


The Nebraska softball team will play at Creighton tonight.  The Huskers are 13-22 on the season.  The Jays are 11-17.  First pitch will be at 6:00pm in Omaha.


The Hastings College baseball team will try to break an 11 game losing streak when they play host to York College tonight at Duncan Field.  The Broncos have not won since knocking off Jamestown 9-3 in the first game of a four game series on March 24th.  York is 18-13 and is coming off a three game sweep of Southwestern College.  First pitch will be at 5:30pm.  We’ll have the action on 1230AM KHAS beginning with the pre-game show at 5:15pm.


The Hastings College softball team will play Nebraska-Kearney today at the Smith Complex. The Broncos are 10-14 on the season.  The Lopers are 12-18.  First pitch will be at 4:00pm.


Carter Pratt will take over the boys basketball program at Minden, replacing Jordan Reinerston.  Pratt has been the head freshman coach at Gretna since 2011.  He takes over a team that finished 5-17 last season.


The Hastings High baseball team beat Guardian Angels Central Catholic/Scribner-Snyder/West Point Beemer 13-0 last night at Duncan Field.  Jacob Shaw, Beau Dreher and Nathan Burns combined for a five inning no-hitter. Mike Boeve finished the game 2 for 3 with a grand slam, a triple and a walk with seven rbi’s.  Connor Creech was 4 for 4 with two rbi’s.  Hastings scored five runs in the second inning and five more in the third to put the game away.  The Tigers are now 8-1 on the season and will play at Kearney today.  First pitch will be at 4:30pm.  We’ll have the game on ESPN 1550 KICS beginning with the pre-game show at 4:15pm.  Kearney lost to Millard West last night 10-6.


In boy’s high school soccer last night, Columbus Scotus beat Northwest 2-1 in a shoot-out, Crete blanked Grand Island Central Catholic 8-0, Grand Island got by Lincoln High 5-3 and Kearney shut out Lincoln Southeast 2-0.


In girls soccer, Columbus Scotus beat Northwest 9-1 and Lincoln High got by Grand Island 2-1 in a shootout.


The Seattle Mariners beat the Kansas City Royals 13-5 last night.  The Royals have now lost seven straight.  The same two teams will play at 7:15pm tonight.  Pre-game show begins at 6:30pm on “The Breeze,” KLIQ 94.5FM.


Virginia won the NCAA Men’s College basketball championship last night with an 85-77 win over Texas Tech.  It’s the first national championship for the Cavaliers and it comes 388 days after becoming the first number one seed to lose to a number 16 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
