Nebraska softball coach Rhonda Revelle has been placed on paid administrative leave by the university pending the completion of an unspecified review.  A timetable for the completion of the review was not announced. Revelle is the second longest tenured coach at Nebraska behind only men’s and women’s track and field coach Gary Pepin.  In her 27 year career, Revelle has posted a record of 989-568.  She has been named the conference coach of the year four times and was inducted into the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2010.  However Nebraska is just 76-83 in the last three seasons and has missed the NCAA Tournament all three years.


Five players, including four former Huskers and one state college coach will be inducted into the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame this fall.  The Nebraska players include kicker Alex Henery, linebacker Jay Foreman, offensive tackle Mark Behning and offensive guard Greg Jorgenson.  Former UNK wide receiver Richie Ross will be inducted along with former Chadron State coach and athletic director Brad Smith.  The induction ceremonies will take place in September.


The Nebraska women’s basketball team will spend Thanksgiving in Las Vegas while competing in the 2019 South Point Shootout.  The Huskers will play USC on Friday November 29th followed by a game against Sacred Heart the following night.  Nebraska played in the South Point Shootout in 2016 and lost to Washington State and Virginia.  USC finished 17-13 last year.  Sacred Heart was 19-13.


Former Husker James Palmer Junior led the Phoenix Suns with 18 points in a 79-69 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies last night in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. Palmer also had five rebounds, four assists, two steals and a blocked shot in 33 minutes.  Through two games, Palmer leads the Suns in minutes played, points scored and is tied for three pointers with six.


Hastings Johnson Imperial Homes beat Gretna last night 12-3.  Treyton Newman was the winning pitcher. He went 5 1/3 innings and gave up three runs and four hits.  Newman struck out five and walked three.   Nathan Burns had three hits.  Hastings is now 31-7 on the season and will host Lincoln Southeast in a doubleheader tonight beginning at 5:00pm.


Hastings Five Points Bank will play a doubleheader at Lincoln Southeast tonight.  Hastings is 24-9 on the season.  First pitch will be at 5:00pm.   In other action, Grand Island Home Federal will play a doubleheader at Lexington.  Kearney Post 52 will play two games at Lincoln Southwest.


The American League team scored six runs in the third inning to beat the Nationals 13-5 in the American Legion All Star game last night at Duncan Field.  Alex Angele of Lincoln Pius Union Bank was 3 for 3 at the plate with an RBI and a double.  Sam Maulsbury of North Platte also had three hits.


The Hastings Sodbusters beat Spearfish last night 7-4. Chris Buting was the winning pitcher.  Ryan McDonald had three hits.  The Sodbusters are now 17-22 on the season.  The same two teams will play tonight at 6:35pm.


The American League won the Major League All Star game last night with a 4-3 victory in Cleveland.  Shane Bieber of the Cleveland Indians was named the most valuable player after striking out the side in the fifth inning.  The victory extended the American League’s All Star Game winning streak to seven games.
