Local Sports 7-3-2019

The Nebraska football team has picked up a 6-foot-five, 250 pound strongside defensive end from Carroll, Iowa. Blaise Gunnerson gave his commitment to the Huskers this week.  He chose Nebraska over other offers from Iowa and Iowa State.  He becomes the seventh player in Nebraska’s 2020 recruiting class.


Nebraska missed out on a four star prospect from Fort Washington Maryland.  Defensive back Joshuah Moten signed with Texas A & M.


The Hastings College Alumni Association is adding Kristi Kort Allen and the late Mark Mathews to its list of Outstanding Alumni Coaches.  Allen is currently the head volleyball coach at Blue Hill High School.  Mathews coached Legion baseball in St. Paul.  He was also a high school football, basketball and track coach.  Allen and Mathews will be honored during Homecoming and Family Weekend at Hastings College on Saturday October 12th.


Nebraska Danger defensive lineman Chris Martin has been named to the first team IFL defense.  Martin had 44 tackles, 16.5 tackles for loss including a league leading 8.5 sacks this season.  Danger running back Davonte Sapp-Lynch was named to the second team along with defensive lineman D’Vonn Brown and defensive back Brandon Roe.


CJ Remmenga threw a one hitter to lead Hastings Five Points Bank over North Platte First National Bank 8-0 last night in North Platte.  Remmenga struck out three and walked two.  Jake Shaw and Mason Brumbaugh had two hits apiece.  Hastings is now 23-9 on the season and will host Seward tonight at Duncan Field.  First pitch will be at 8:00pm.


Hastings Johnson Imperial Homes had their game rained out last night.  JIH was trailing Wood River 4-1 after two innings.  Hastings will play Seward tonight in the first game at 5:30pm.


Luke Brooks drove in the winning run in the bottom of the fifth inning to lead Hastings Runza to a 10-9 win over Wood River last night.  Blake Kile was the winning pitcher.  Drew Bonifas had three hits and two rbi’s.  Hastings is now 23-11-1 and will play in the Lincoln Tournament this weekend.


In other action, Kearney Runza beat Lincoln North Star 4-0.  Mason Casper was the winning pitcher.  He allowed three hits and struck out ten.  Kearney is now 23-6.  Kearney Post 52 beat Lincoln North Star 8-3.  Kearney is now 19-12.


ROYALS> Cleveland beat Kansas City 9-5 last night.  They’ll play again tonight at 7:15pm.  Pre-game show will be at 6:30pm on “The Breeze,” KLIQ 94.5FM.
