Former Husker James Palmer Junior scored a team high 23 points to lead Phoenix to a 105-100 overtime win over New York in the NBA Summer League yesterday. Palmer hit 4 of 7 three pointers and grabbed four rebounds in 33 minutes. Meanwhile, Isaiah Roby put together two solid performances over the weekend for the Dallas Mavericks. Roby scored 14 points on 6 of 11 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds in the Mavericks 113-81 win over Houston on Saturday. On Friday, Roby scored 10 points, grabbed four rebounds and had two blocked shots in a win over Brooklyn.

Chessey Thomas has been named an associate head coach of the Nebraska women’s golf team. Thomas becomes the second full time assistant coach in the history of the Husker program. She has spent the last three years as an assistant coach at Washington. Before that, she spent two years as an assistant coach under Nebraska coach Lisa Johnson at Idaho. Thomas played her college golf at Tennessee.

The U.S. Women’s Volleyball National Team beat Brazil to defend its FIVB Volleyball Nations League title yesterday. The U.S. beat Brazil 20-25, 22-25, 25-15, 25-21, 15-13 to win the gold medal. Former Huskers Kelsey Robinson had 13 kills for the Americans. Jordan Larson had eight. Mikaela Foecke was also on the U.S. squad.

The Badlands Big Sticks beat the Hastings Sodbusters 3-0 yesterday. The Sodbusters could manage only four hits in the game. Andrew Shaw was the losing pitcher. Hastings is now 16-22 on the season and will play at Spearfish on Tuesday.

Eight players from the Tri Cities will play in the American Legion All Star game tomorrow night at Duncan Field. Mason Casper, Corbin Foster, Keegan Thurston and Seth Stroh of Kearney Runza will be on the National League team along with Ashton Valentine and Josh Brooks of Hastings Five Points Bank. The American League team will include Carson Cahoy and Rans Sanders of Grand Island Home Federal. The game will get underway at 7:00pm.

Hastings Johnson Imperial Homes went 4-0 in their own tournament over the weekend. Hastings beat Papillion LaVista South 8-3 yesterday. JIH also beat Beatrice 9-2, Lincoln Southwest 6-5 and Bennington 12-4. Hastings is now 30-7 on the season and will play at Gretna on Tuesday.

Hastings Runza won three of four games over the weekend. Hastings is now 26-12-1 on the season.

Kearney Runza went 3-1 over the weekend. Kearney is now 26-7 and will play Lincoln Pius/Union Bank tonight in the Cornhusker League Championship game. First pitch will be at 5:30pm at Sherman Field in Lincoln.

Kearney Post 52 went 2-2 over the weekend. Kearney is now 21-14 and will play at Lincoln Southwest on Wednesday.

ROYALS> The Washington Nationals beat the Kansas City Royals 5-2 yesterday. The Royals will not play again until Friday .
