The son of the co-offensive coordinator at Baylor has committed to join the Nebraska football program. William Nixon is a three star wide receiver from Waco, Texas.  The versatile 5-foot-11, 185 pound athlete becomes the eighth pledge in Nebraska’s 2020 class and the fifth in the past two weeks.  Nixon carried the ball 25 times for 400 yards and five touchdowns last fall.  He also had 40 catches for 500 yards and five scores.  Nixon also visited Georgia Tech, Purdue, Notre Dame, Penn State and Baylor before deciding to join the Huskers.

 

Nebraska will send Heisman Trophy contender Adrian Martinez to Big Ten Media Days in Chicago next week.  The sophomore will be joined by senior linebacker Mohamed Barry and senior defensive lineman Khalil Davis.  The event will be held July 18th and 19th at the Hilton Chicago.  The Nebraska players and head coach Scott Frost will speak on the first day.

 

Former Husker Isaiah Roby scored six points in the Dallas Mavericks 105-101 loss to the Sacramento Kings in the NBA Summer League last night in Las Vegas.  Roby was 1 for 6 from the field and 4 for 6 from the free throw line.  He also had four rebounds in 31 minutes of play.

 

Kearney Runza won the Cornhusker League Championship last night with a 3-2 win over Lincoln Pius Union Bank at Sherman Field in Lincoln.  Noah Carpenter was the winning pitcher.  He threw six innings and gave up two runs and five hits.  Carpenter struck out eight and walked three.  Trey Rodriquez had two hits and an rbi.  Kearney Runza is now 27-7 and will play Gretna on Friday.

 

The American Legion All Star game will be played tonight at Duncan Field.  Ashton Valentine and Josh Brooks of Hastings Five Points Bank will play for the National League.  Joining the Hastings duo will be Mason Casper, Corbin Foster, Keegan Thurston and Seth Stroh of Kearney Runza.  Carson Cahoy and Rans Sanders of Grand Island Home Federal will play for the American League.  First pitch is set for 7:00pm.

 

Hastings Johnson Imperial Homes will play at Gretna tonight.  Hastings is 30-7 on the season.  Game time is set for 6:00pm.

 

MLB> Pete Alonso of the New York Mets won the home run derby last night.  The rookie first baseman hit three walk off homers to claim the one million dollars.  The Major League All Star game is set for tonight in Cleveland.  First pitch will be at 7:00pm.  We’ll have it on ESPN Tri Cities beginning with the pre-game show at 6:00pm.
