The wait is just about over. The Nebraska football team reports for fall camp today. The Huskers begin their preseason workouts tomorrow. Nebraska is coming off of a 4-8 season, They’ll kickoff the 2019 season with a home game against South Alabama on August 31st.

Cam Mack’s debut for the Nebraska men’s basketball team will have to wait until this fall. The juco transfer point guard announced on Twitter last night that he won’t be traveling with the team to Italy as he recovers from an undisclosed condition that landed him in the hospital for a couple of days. Mack figures to be a key player for the Huskers this season, after averaging 19 points, 5.9 rebounds and 7.4 assists for Salt Lake Community College last year. Nebraska leaves for Italy on Saturday.

The Nebraska-Kearney football team is picked to finish ninth in the MIAA preseason coaches poll. The Lopers finished 5-6 last season. Fort Hays State was picked to win the championship this year followed by Northwest Missouri State, Pittsburg State, Central Oklahoma and Central Missouri. UNK was also ninth in the media poll, which had Northwest Missouri State winning the championship, followed by Fort Hays State and Pittsburg State.

The Hastings Sodbusters have named a new General Manager starting September 1st. Scott Galusha will take over for Bryan Frew, as Frew transitions into a baseball operations and coaching role. Galusha and Frew will own the team together. Galusha is originally from Lincoln and has been involved with youth baseball and softball for 26 years. Frew also announced that Ryan McClaran will return to coach the team in 2020. McClaran had to leave the team earlier this summer to get settled into his new job for El Paso Community College.

The Hastings Sodbusters scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning last night to beat the Casper Horseheads 6-5. Cody White was the winning pitcher. Grant Schmidt had three hits for the Sodbusters. Hastings is now 24-35 on the season. The same two teams play tonight at Duncan Field, beginning at 6:35pm.

Gretna beat Kearney Runza 5-1 last night to win the National Division of the Class A State American Legion Baseball Tournament. Cal Higgins was the losing pitcher. Trey Rodriguez had three hits. Kearney ends the season 36-12. Fremont won the National Division with an 8-2 win over Millard South. Brody Sintek allowed four hits in 6 1/3 innings and struck out nine for Fremont before reaching his pitch count limit. Fremont will play at Gretna to determine the state championship in a three game series beginning tomorrow night. Fremont will be seeking their first state title since 1946. The winner will play in the Mid South Regional beginning next week at Duncan Field in Hastings.

In other action, Bennington won the Class B State Championship with a 9-8 win over Alliance. Dannebrog Cairo Boelus won Class C after beating Pender 4-1. The Class A Juniors Tournament was won by Millard North. They beat Lincoln Southwest in the championship game 7-4.

ROYALS> The Toronto Blue Jays beat the Kansas City Royals 4-1 last night. The Royals will play at Minnesota tomorrow night beginning at 7:10pm. Pre-game show begins at 6:30pm on “The Breeze,” KLIQ 94.5FM.

NFL> NFL football is back. The first preseason game is scheduled for tonight as Denver plays Atlanta in Canton, Ohio Kickoff will be at 7:00pm. We’ll have it on ESPN 1550 KICS beginning with the pre-game show at 6:30pm.
