Local Sports 8-15-2019

The Nebraska football team worked out for about two hours in full pads yesterday.  Offensive coordinator Troy Walters says the offense is executing at a faster pace.  He also likes the play of the young wide receivers.  Nebraska will open the season on August 31st at home against South Alabama.  Kickoff will be at 11:00am.

 

The Nebraska women’s soccer team will play Arkansas in an exhibition match tonight in Fayetteville.  The Huskers beat Omaha 4-0 in an exhibition match on Saturday in Lincoln.  The Razorbacks played in the NCAA Tournament in 2018.  Game time will be at 7:00pm.  Nebraska will open the season on August 22nd at Kansas.

 

Hastings College is ranked 14th in the NAIA Women’s Volleyball Coaches Preseason Top 25 poll.  The Broncos were 22-7 last year.  Defending national champion Park of Missouri is ranked number one.  Northwestern is 7th, Midland is 8th, Dordt is 11th and Jamestown is 20th.  Hastings will open the season on Wednesday against 19th ranked Corban of Oregon at Lynn Farrell Arena.  First serve will be at 7:00pm.

 

The Hastings College football team continues their preseason workouts.  Head coach Tony Harper says he likes the energy and enthusiasm of his team and how the team is working together.  Hastings will be back on the practice field today.  They open the season on August 31st against Panhandle State of Oklahoma.

 

The American Legion World Series gets underway today in Shelby, North Carolina.  Festus of Missouri, who won the Mid South Regional Tournament at Duncan Field in Hastings last week, will open pool play against Albuquerque of New Mexico.  Also today, Destrehan of Louisiana will play Danville of Illinois and Fargo North Dakota will take on Idaho Falls.

 

The Adams Central football team will field a talented group of players for the 2019 season.  That group is led by quarterback Evan Johnson, who passed for 23-hundred 16 yards and 26 touchdowns last year.  His primary target was Leif Spady, who caught 47 passes for 675 yards and five touchdowns.  Gabe Conant returns at running back after rushing for 12-hundred 83 yards and 15 touchdowns last season.  The Patriots open the season on August 30th against Aurora.

 

ROYALS> The St. Louis Cardinals beat the Kansas City Royals 6-0 last night.  Kansas City will open a series with the New York Mets tomorrow night, beginning at 7:15pm.  Pre-game show begins at 6:30pm on “The Breeze,” KLIQ 94.5FM.
