For the first time since 2014, the Nebraska football team is ranked in the AP Preseason Top 25 Poll. The Huskers are coming off back to back 4-8 seasons and are ranked number 24 in the preseason poll. It’s the first time Nebraska has been ranked in the AP Poll since December 4th of 2016. Clemson is ranked number one followed by Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma and Ohio State. Rounding out the top ten are LSU, Michigan, Florida, Notre Dame and Texas. Penn State is 15th, Michigan State is 18th, Wisconsin is 19th and Iowa is 20th. Nebraska will open the season on August 31st at home against South Alabama. Kickoff will be at 11:00am.
Nebraska and Adidas have unveiled a new alternative uniform for the Huskers. The jerseys will be black with red and white accents. There will be a skull and crossbones logo on the sleeve. The new uniform will have white pants with a white helmet with a black “N.” No date has been announced for when the jerseys will be worn.
Nebraska baseball coach Will Bolt has announced the addition of Danny Marcuzzo to his staff as a volunteer assistant and camp coordinator. Marcuzzo spent last season as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Coffeyville Community College in Kansas. Prior to that, he coached at Central Oklahoma.
The Nebraska women’s soccer team is picked seventh in the 2019 Big Ten Women’s soccer Preseason Coaches Poll. Penn State is picked to win the championship this year followed by Rutgers, Wisconsin, Ohio State and Michigan.
New Hastings College athletic director BJ Pumroy is still getting his feet wet in his new job. Pumroy took over for Patty Sitorius on July 1st. Pumroy says he spent the first few weeks learning and gathering some history to better understand the campus. Pumroy comes to Hastings after spending two years at St. Mary’s High School in suburban Washington DC. Before that, he was at Sheppard University in West Virginia.

NFL> San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo went just 1 for 6 for zero yards and an interception last night in his first game since suffering a season ending knee injury last September. Garoppolo finished the night with a 0.0 passer rating. The 49ers ended up beating the Denver Broncos 24-15.
