We still don’t know if running back Maurice Washington will play when Nebraska battles South Alabama in the season opener tomorrow at Memorial Stadium.  Head coach Scott Frost says it will be a game-time decision.  Washington is facing a felony charge in California for allegedly sending a 10 second video to an ex-girlfriend, who was 15 at the time performing oral sex.  Washington was not involved in the recording of the video or the sex act.  His next court date is set for September 3rd.


The coach also said yesterday that freshman quarterback Luke McCaffrey will likely redshirt this year.  Wahoo Neumann graduate Noah Vedral will be Nebraska’s number two quarterback behind starter Adrian Martinez.


The Nebraska volleyball team will play Creighton and UCLA in the Husker Invite this weekend.  Tonight’s match with the Bluejays will get underway at 7:00pm.  We’ll have it on “The Breeze,” KLIQ 94.5FM.  The women’s soccer team will play host to Clemson tonight and Baylor on Sunday.


A pair of former Huskers are playing in the FIBA World Cup which begins tomorrow in China.  The event will run through September 15th.  Tai Webster will play for New Zealand.  He played for the Huskers from 2014 to 2017.  Jorge Brian Diaz will play for Puerto Rico.  He played at Nebraska from 2010-2012 and has played professional in Puerto Rico for the past seven years.


The Hastings College football team will play Panhandle State of Oklahoma in their season opener tomorrow night at Lloyd Wilson Field.  The Broncos beat the Aggies 26-17 last year in Goodwell, Oklahoma.  Kickoff will be at 6:00pm.  We’ll have the action on 1230AM KHAS beginning with the pre-game show at 5:00pm.


In  football action last night in the Great Plains Athletic Conference, Ottawa University of Arizona blasted Doane 48-7, Valley City State got by the University of Jamestown 20-14, Dakota State edged Dakota Wesleyan 33-30 in two overtimes and Keiser University beat Dordt 34-21.


The Hastings College volleyball team is in Columbia, Missouri for the Columbia Labor Day Classic.  Hastings will play Olivet Nazarene today and Columbia College and William Woods University on Saturday. The men’s and women’s soccer teams will host Benedictine College today at 4:00pm and 6:00pm.


The high school football season will get underway tonight.  Hastings High will play at McCook (KHAS), Adams Central will play host to Aurora (KICS) and Hastings St. Cecilia plays at Hershey.  In other action, Minden will play at Gibbon on Power 99 KKPR, 98.9FM and Broken Bow will be at Kearney Catholic on ESPN 1460 KXPN.


In high school volleyball last night, Adams Central beat Sandy Creek, 25-17, 25-13, 25-12.  In other action, Centura defeated Doniphan Trumbull, Grand Island Central Catholic beat Superior, Kearney knocked off Lincoln North Star, Lincoln East beat Grand Island, Silver Lake swept McCool Junction and Sutton defeated Exeter Milligan.  Kenesaw won two games over Heartland Lutheran and Spaulding Academy.


In high school softball, Adams Central split two games at the a home triangular.  The Patriots beat Ord 11-1, but lost to Fairbury 9-4.  Adams Central is now 3-2.  Hastings St. Cecilia defeated Central City 7-3.  The Hawkettes are now 5-1.  Grand Island took two from Lincoln Pius 11-3 and 20-9.  Kearney beat Fremont 7-4.  Northwest defeated Lexington 10-1.


ROYALS> Oakland beat Kansas City 9-8 yesterday.  The Royals will host Baltimore tonight beginning at 7:15pm.
