Local Sports 8-5-2019

The Nebraska men’s basketball team has arrived in Rome to begin the first part of their Italian Tour.  The Huskers spent Sunday sightseeing, shopping and adjusting to the seven hour time difference.  Nebraska will play their first game against Stella Academy this evening.

 

The U.S. Women’s National Volleyball team defeated Argentina on Sunday to go undefeated in the Tokyo Women’s Volleyball Qualification Tournament Pool C and secure its berth into the 2020 Tokyo Games.  The Americans beat Argentina 25-22-25-17, 25-23.  Former Huskers Jordan Larson and Kelsey Robinson led the Americans.  Larson had 12 kills in the championship match. Robinson had 10.  Team USA is the only country to medal in women’s indoor volleyball in each of the last three Olympic Games.

 

The Hastings Sodbusters wrapped up the season with a 7-3 win over the Hub City Hotshots.  Trevan Lowtharp was the winning pitcher.  Carlos Pineyro had three hits for the Sodbusters.  Hastings finishes the season 29-35.

 

The field is set for the 2019 Mid South American Legion Baseball Regional Tournament that gets underway on Wednesday at Duncan Field.  In the first game at 10:00am, the Three Rivers Bandits from Oklahoma will play the Texarkana Bulldogs from Texas followed by Emporia of Kansas against Festus of Missouri.  The Nebraska state champion, Fremont First State Bank will play the Sedalia Travelers of Missouri at 4:00pm followed by Hastings Five Points Bank against the Bryant Black Sox of Arkansas at 7:00pm.  We’ll have the Hastings game on 1230AM KHAS beginning with the pre-game show at 6:45pm.

 

ROYALS> The Minnesota Twins beat the Kansas City Royals 3-0 yesterday.  The Royals are now 40-73 on the season and will play at Boston tonight.  First pitch will be at 6:10pm.  Pre-game show begins at 5:30pm on “The Breeze,” KLIQ 94.5FM.
