Haanif Cheatham and Dachon Burke each had 20 points apiece, as Nebraska improved to 2-0 on their Italian trip with an 83-58 win over the Silute Basketball Club yesterday.  While Cheatham and Burke were the only Huskers to finish in double figures, 10 of the 12 players who played got into the scoring column.  Nebraska shot well, hitting ten three-pointers. The Huskers will be back in action again today with a rematch against the Silute Basketball Club.  Tip-off will be at 11:00am, local time.


The Nebraska football team practiced in full pads for the first time during fall camp yesterday, working out for nearly two hours while splitting time inside the Hawks Championship Center and outside on the grass practice fields.  Offensive coordinator Troy Walters says freshman wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson has looked good.  He also says the Nebraska defense is making the team a whole lot better.  Nebraska will practice again this morning.  They’ll open the season on August 31st at home against South Alabama.  Kickoff will be at 11:00am.


Hastings Five Points Bank stranded 12 runners and lost to Bryant of Arkansas 3-2 last night  in the Mid South Regional Tournament at Duncan Field.  Hastings stranded five runners in the first two innings, but Bryant starting pitcher Slade Renfrow struck out the final two batters in both innings to escape the jams.  The Black Sox delivered the crushing blow with a three run triple by Jake Wright in the fifth inning.  Tyson Gatto was the losing pitcher for Hastings.  He went five innings and gave up three runs and five hits.  Gatto struck out three and walked three.  Mike Boeve and Jake Shaw had one hit and one rbi apiece.  Hastings is now 32-14 on the season and will play Emporia of Kansas in the elimination game today.  Emporia lost to Festus of Missouri yesterday 5-3.  Game time will be at 1:00pm.  We’ll have it on 1230AM KHAS beginning with the pre-game show at 12:45pm.


In the other games yesterday, Brody Sintek threw a no hitter to lead Fremont First State Bank past Sedalia of Missouri 8-2.  Sintek struck out 13 and walked just one batter to improve to 12-0 on the season.  Fremont committed four errors. Three Rivers of Oklahoma beat Texarkana of Texas 2-0.


The schedule today has Texarkana playing Sedalia at 10:00am this morning followed by Hastings and Emporia at 1:00pm.  At 4:00pm, it’s Fremont against Three Rivers followed by Festus against Bryant at 7:00pm tonight.


ROYALS> The series finale between the Boston Red Sox and the Kansas City Royals was suspended by rain late last night with the score tied 4-4 in the top of the tenth inning. The two teams waited out a one hour and 49 minute rain delay before the game was suspended.  The game will resume at 12:05pm on August 22nd.  That was suppose to be an off day for the Royals on their way from Baltimore to Cleveland.  Kansas City will play at Detroit tonight, beginning at 6:10pm.  Pre-game show begins at 5:30pm on “The Breeze,” KLIQ 94.5FM.
