Local Sports 9-11-2019

Nebraska defensive coordinator Erik Chinander says the Huskers lack the “killer instinct.”  Nebraska blew a 17 point halftime lead and lost to Colorado on Saturday 34-31 in overtime.  It’s the fifth time in 14 games that Nebraska has lost a second half lead under head coach Scott Frost.  Nebraska will play Northern Illinois this Saturday at Memorial Stadium.  Kickoff will be at 7:00pm.  Pre-game coverage begins at 2:00pm on “The Breeze,” KLIQ 94.5FM.


The Hastings College football team is getting ready to face the University of Jamestown this Saturday.  The Broncos are coming off of a bye after beating Panhandle State of Oklahoma 40-22 in their season opener.  The Jimmies are 0-2 after losses to Valley City State and Dickinson State.  Kickoff will be at 1:00pm.  Pre-game coverage begins at noon on 1230AM KHAS.


The Hastings College volleyball team will play host to Doane tonight at Lynn Farrell Arena.  The Broncos are 5-6 on the season, 0-1 in the GPAC. The Tigers are 9-4, 0-1 in the conference.  First serve will be at 7:30pm.  The Hastings College men’s soccer team will host Baker University tonight at Lloyd Wilson Field.  Game time will be at 7:00pm.


The Nebraska-Kearney volleyball team swept York last night at the Health and Sports Center.  The scores were 25-8, 25-14, 25-21.  Mackenzie Puckett led the Lopers with seven kills, four blocks and three digs.  UNK is now 5-0 on the season and will host the Fall Classic this weekend.


The Adams Central softball team won two games at the Blue Hill Triangular.  The Patriots beat Grand Island Central Catholic 6-4 and then blanked Blue Hill 23-0.  Adams Central scored 15 runs in the first inning.  Jersie Frerichs and Belle Hughes combined to throw a three inning no-hitter.  Adams Central is now 10-3 and will play in the York Triangular on Thursday.


The Hastings High softball team beat Cozad 11-1 yesterday and Aurora 12-0.  The Tigers are now 11-3 and will host the Hastings Tournament this weekend.


The St. Cecilia softball team lost to North Platte 7-6 yesterday and beat Columbus 6-4.  The Hawkettes are now 9-4 and will play in the Hastings Tournament this weekend.


In some other games, Kearney took two from Lincoln East 11-10 and 12-0, Lincoln Southeast swept Grand Island 9-1 and 11-3 and McCook beat Kearney Catholic 11-3


In high school volleyball last night, Hastings High beat Grand Island 23-25, 25-23, 25-14, 25-22.  The Tigers are now 8-4.  St. Cecilia beat Adams Central 25-18, 25-9, 25-14. The Hawkettes improve to 4-0.  The Patriots are 3-3.


In some other games, Aurora defeated Columbus, Centennial beat Sandy Creek, Kearney Catholic swept Twin Loup and Kearney knocked off Fremont,  At the Superior Triangular, Doniphan/Trumbull beat Kenesaw, Superior beat Doniphan/Trumbull and Kenesaw.


ROYALS>  The Chicago White Sox beat the Kansas City Royals 7-3 last night.  The same two teams will play at 7:10pm tonight.  Pre-game show begins at 6:30pm on “The Breeze,” KLIQ 94.5FM.


MLB>  The Los Angeles Dodgers wrapped up the National League West last night with a 7-3 win over Baltimore.  The Dodgers are the first Major League Baseball team to secure a spot in the 2019 postseason.  They are 94-52 on the season and have a three game lead over Atlanta for the best record in the National League and home field advantage in the playoffs.


NFL> Antonio Brown has been accused of sexually assaulting his former trainer, according to a lawsuit filed Tuesday in the Southern District  of Florida.  Britney Taylor accuses the newly signed New England Patriots receiver of sexually assaulting her on three separate occasions in 2017 and 2018.  Brown is eligible to play this weekend after being released by the Oakland Raiders over the weekend.
