The Nebraska football team will face Northern Illinois on Saturday at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln. The Huskies are 1-1 on the season after a 24-10 win over Illinois State and a 35-17 loss to Utah. Northern Illinois averages 345 yards per game, including 267 yards through the air. Defensively, they give up 322 yards per game. Northern Illinois beat Nebraska 21-17 in 2017 in their last visit to Lincoln which led to the firing of Nebraska Athletic Director Shawn Eichorst. Saturday’s game will kickoff at 7:00pm. The Nebraska volleyball team will host the Ameritas Players Challenge this weekend. The Huskers will play High Point tomorrow at noon. Pre-game show begins at 11:30am on 1230AM KHAS. Nebraska junior Erika Freyhof has been named the women’s cross country athlete of the week in the Big Ten Conference. Freyhof led the Huskers and finished third at the Augustana Twilight in Sioux Falls last weekend with a 5K personal-best time of 17:01.13.
The Nebraska softball team begins its fall season this weekend, which will include five home games, two away games and a scrimmage. The Huskers kickoff the fall season with the Scarlet and Cream Scrimmage on Sunday at 11:30am at Bowlin Stadium. Nebraska will play Omaha in a doubleheader on September 22nd beginning at noon.
The Hastings College volleyball team beat Doane last night at Lynn Farrell Arena. The scores were 25-18, 20-25, 25-15, 25-16. Lucy Skoch led the Broncos with 15 kills. Hastings is now 6-6 on the season, 1-1 in the conference. They’ll play host to the College of St. Mary’s on Saturday beginning at 3:00pm.
The Hastings College men’s soccer team fought to a 1-1 draw with 13th ranked Baker University last night at Lloyd Wilson Field. The Broncos are now 4-0-1 and will play at Mount Marty on Saturday.
The Nebraska Kearney football team will play Central Oklahoma tonight. The Lopers are 1-0 on the season after last weeks 39-27 win over Missouri Southern State. They haven’t started 2-0 in back to back seasons since 1969 and 1970. The Bronchos are 0-1 after losing to Pittsburgh State last week 37-35. Kickoff will be at 7:00pm.
Four former student-athletes and a coach will be inducted into the University of Nebraska-Kearney Athletic Hall of Fame during ceremonies on Homecoming weekend on October 4th and 5th. The 2019 Hall of Fame members are baseball player Neal Arnold, track athlete Lesley Crutcher Hulett, wresler Tervel Dlagnev, football player Roger Suelter and women’s track and cross country coach Mary Iten.
