Local Sports 9-13-2019

The Nebraska football team will play Northern Illinois tomorrow at Memorial Stadium.  The Huskies upset the Huskers 21-17 in their last visit to Lincoln in 2017.  Kickoff will be at 7:00pm.  Pre-game coverage begins at 2:00pm on “The Breeze” KLIQ 94.5FM.

 

The Nebraska volleyball team will host High Point and Denver today in the Ameritas Players Challenge in Lincoln.  The first game against High Point begins at noon.  We’ll have coverage on 1230AM KHAS beginning with the pre-game show at 11:30am.  Tonight’s game against Denver begins at 7:30pm.   We’ll have it on “The Breeze,” KLIQ 94.5 beginning with the pre-game show at 7:00pm.

 

The Nebraska women’s soccer team is also at home this weekend.  The Huskers will play Oklahoma tonight and Gonzaga on Sunday.

 

The Hastings College football team will face the University of Jamestown tomorrow at Lloyd Wilson Field.  The Jimmies are 0-2 on the season after losses to Valley City State and Dickinson State.  They have struggled offensively in the first two games, averaging only seven points and 213 yards per game.  Kickoff will be at 1:00pm.  We’ll have coverage on 1230AM KHAS beginning at noon.

 

The Hastings College volleyball team will host the College of St. Mary’s tomorrow beginning at 3:00pm.  The men’s soccer team will play at Mount Marty beginning at 5:30pm.  The women’s soccer team will play Central Christian in McPherson, Kansas beginning at 2:00pm.

 

Central Oklahoma scored 21 points in the fourth quarter and recovered an onside kick with 47 seconds remaining to beat Nebraska-Kearney 28-23 last night at Ron and Carol Cope Stadium in Kearney.  The Lopers had five drives end inside the Bronchos 30-yard line that resulted in a total of just three points.  UNK outgained Central Oklahoma 504-379.  UNK is now 1-1 on the season and will play at Emporia State next Saturday.

 

It’s the third week of the high school football season and all three city teams will be in action tonight.  Adams Central will play host to Lincoln Lutheran on 1230AM KHAS, Hastings St. Cecilia is at Gibbon on ESPN 1550 KICS and Hastings High will play at Alliance.  On Power 99 KKPR 98.9FM, it’s Kenesaw at Pleasanton.

 

In high school softball yesterday, Adams Central won two games at the York Triangular.  The Patriots beat York 13-3 in the first game.  Sadie Carpenter was the winning pitcher.  Teagan Abbott had three hits and five rbi’s.  Adams Central beat Centennial 10-7 in the second game.  Jersie Frerichs was the winning pitcher.  Kiarra Biede had three hits and four rbi’s.  Adams Central is now 12-3 and will play in the Hastings Tournament this weekend.

 

In some other games, Lincoln Northeast and Grand Island split two games with the Islanders winning 11-2 and losing 8-5.  Northwest shut out Grand Island Central Catholic 9-0, Kearney Catholic beat Holdrege 3-1 and Blue Hill split two games with St. Paul yesterday.  The Bobats won 9-6, but lost 12-7.

 

The Adams Central volleyball team dropped two games at their own triangular yesterday.  The Patriots lost to Blue Hill 21-25, 15-25 and to Kearney Catholic 19-25, 18-25.  The Patriots are now 3-5.  Hastings St. Cecilia beat Gibbon 25-17, 25-11, 25-10.  The Hawkettes are now 5-0.  At the Sutton Triangular, Grand Island Central Catholic beat Sutton and Doniphan/Trumbull while Doniphan/Trumbull beat Sutton.

 

ROYALS> The Kansas City Royals beat the Chicago White Sox 6-3 yesterday.  Kansas City will host Houston tonight, beginning at 7:15pm.

 

NFL> in the NFL last night, Tampa Bay beat Carolina 20-14.  Jameis Winstron threw for 208 yards and a touchdown for the Bucs.
