The Nebraska football team is set to take on 5th ranked Ohio State tomorrow night in Lincoln.  The Buckeyes are 4-0 on the season and ranks third nationally in scoring and 14th in total offense, averaging better than 525 yards per game.  On the defensive side, the Buckeyes are second nationally in total defense, allowing just 222 yards per game.  Ohio State leads the overall series with Nebraska 6-1, with the Huskers lone victory coming in 2011.  Kickoff will be at 6:30pm.  Pre-game coverage begins at 1:30pm on “The Breeze,’ KLIQ 94.5FM.


Award winning actress Gabrielle Union will be the celebrity guest picker on ESPN’s “College Game Day” on Saturday in Lincoln.  Union is an Omaha native who is married to NBA great Dwyane Wade.


The Nebraska volleyball team begins Big Ten play this weekend with a pair of matches.   The Huskers will face Illinois tonight and Northwestern on Saturday. Tonight’s match with the Fighting Illini begins at 7:30pm.  We’ll have it on “The Breeze,” KLIQ 94.5FM beginning at 7:00pm.  The match tomorrow against Northwestern begins at 7:00pm.  We’ll have it on 1230AM KHAS beginning with the pre-game show at 6:30pm.


The Nebraska women’s soccer team lost to Northwestern 1-0 last night.  The Huskers are now 2-6-2 on the season and will play host to Illinois on Sunday.


The Hastings College football team will play at Doane tomorrow.  The Broncos are 2-1 on the season.  The Tigers are 1-3.  This will be the 118th meeting between the two schools with Doane holding a 54-53 advantage. There have been 10 ties.  Kickoff will be at 1:00pm.  Pre-game show begins at noon on 1230AM KHAS.


The Hastings College volleyball team has the weekend off.  They’ll play host to Concordia on Wednesday.  The Hastings College soccer teams will play host to Briar Cliff on Saturday and Presentation College on Sunday.


The Hastings College men’s golf team will play in the first two qualifying rounds of the GPAC Championships this weekend in Elkhorn.  The Broncos will be looking to improve on last year’s 10th place finish.  Morningside is the defending champion.  Caleb Badura of Northwestern was the individual champion.


The Nebraska-Kearney football team will play Pittsburgh State tomorrow night.  Kickoff will be at 7:00pm at Ron and Carol Cope Stadium.  The volleyball team will host Newman University tonight and Central Oklahoma on Saturday.


The Tri City Storm opened the season with a 2-1 overtime loss to Waterloo yesterday in the USHL Fall Classic in Pennsylvania.  The Storm will play Youngstown this afternoon.


The St. Cecilia softball team won a pair of games yesterday.  The Hawkettes beat Twin River 8-0   Natalie Kissinger was the winning pitcher. She allowed only two hits and struck out nine.  St. Cecilia beat St. Paul in the second game 10-2.  Kissinger again picked up the win and had three hits and one rbi.  St. Cecilia is now 19-7 on the season.


In other action, Grand Island and Kearney split two games.  The Islanders won 14-4. The Bearcats won 10-7.  Kearney Catholic rolled to a 15-2 win over Minden and Seward beat Grand Island Central Catholic 7-6.


In high school volleyball last night, Hastings High beat North Platte 27-25, 25-20, 26-24.  The Tigers are now 18-4.  Grand Island Central Catholic beat Adams Central 25-16, 26-28, 25-19, 25-14.  The Patriots are now 8-9.  St. Cecilia beat Sutton 25-15, 25-13, 25-9.  The Hawkettes are now 13-1.


In other action, Blue Hill won a pair of games yesterday beating Red Cloud and Shelton, Kearney Catholic defeated Northwest, Lawrence Nelson knocked off Silver Lake and MInden defeated Gothenburg,
