Local Sports 9-3-2019

The Nebraska football team will play at Colorado this Saturday.  The Huskers are 1-0 on the season after Saturday’s 35-21 win over South Alabama.  The Buffs are 1-0 after beating Colorado State 52-31.  Kickoff will be at 2:30pm.  Pre-game coverage begins at 9:30am on “The Breeze,’ KLIQ 94.5FM.


The Nebraska volleyball team will play at the USD Invitational in San Diego, California this weekend.  The Huskers will play Arizona on Friday and San Diego on Saturday.  Nebraska is 2-0 on the season after beating Creighton and UCLA in the Husker Invite over the weekend.


Jason Bachle of Hastings College has been named the special teams player of the week in the Great Plains Athletic Conference.  Bachle opened up his collegiate career by scoring 5 for 5 on PAT’s.  He also hit a 45 yard field goal in Saturday’s 40-22 win over Panhandle State of Oklahoma.  Hastings is off this weekend.  They’ll play host to the University of Jamestown on September 14th.


The Hastings College volleyball team will open the conference season tomorrow night at Concordia.  The Broncos are 2-5 on the season after winning 2 of 3 games at the Columbia Labor Day Classic in Columbia, Missouri.  First serve will be at 7:30pm.


The Hastings College men’s soccer team is off to a 3-0 start after beating Benedictine College and William Woods University over the weekend.  Hastings will play at Kansas Wesleyan on Friday.  The Hastings College women’s soccer team is 1-1 on the season after beating Benedictine College 1-0 in their last game.  Hastings will play at Oklahoma Wesleyan on Saturday.


The Tri City Storm has announced its 30 man roster for the six game preseason schedule.  Included on the roster are 13 players that played for the Storm last year.  Tri City will open the pre season schedule on Saturday against Lincoln.  Face off will be at 7:05pm at the Viaero Center in Kearney.


Following their 30-7 win over McCook, the Hastings High football team has jumped into the top ten ratings in Class B.  The Tigers are fifth this week in the Lincoln Journal Star and ninth in the Omaha World Herald.  Hastings will play host to 2nd ranked Scottsbluff on Friday.


ROYALS> The Kansas City Royals open a series with the Detroit Tigers tonight at Kauffman Stadium.  First pitch at 7:15pm.  Pre-game show begins at 6:30pm on “The Breeze,” KLIQ 94.5FM.


FOOTBALL>  In college football last night, 9th ranked Notre Dame beat Louisville 35-17.


South Carolina quarterback Jake Bentley has a foot injury that will sideline him indefinitely, and freshman Ryan Hilinski will take over the starting job beginning in Saturday’s game against Charleston Southern.  Bently,who has started 33 games for the Gamecocks, was injured in Saturday’s 24-20 loss to North Carolinia.


The Indianapolis Colts have agreed to a two year, 30 million dollar deal with new starting quarterback Jacoby Brisset, including 20 million dollars guaranteed.   Brissett was in the final year of his four year, 3.41 million dollar rookie deal, that included a 2019 base salary of two million dollars. Brisset took over the job after Andrew Luck announced his retirement on August 24th.
