Local Sports 9-30-2019

Alabama has overtaken Clemson for the top spot in the latest AP College Football Poll.  The Crimson Tide are 5-0 on the season after Saturday’s 59-31 win over Ole Miss.  The Tigers drop to second after holding off North Carolina 21-20.  Georgia is third.  Ohio State jumps ahead of LSU for the number four spot after beating Nebraska 48-7 on Saturday. LSU is fifth.  Rounding out the top ten are Oklahoma, Auburn, Wisconsin, Notre Dame and Florida.

 

The Nebraska football team is now 3-2 on the season after losing to the Buckeyes on Saturday.  The Huskers avoided their first shutout since 1996 when Dedrick Mills scored a touchdown in the third quarter.  Ohio State outgained Nebraska 580-231.  The Huskers also had three turnovers.  Nebraska will play host to Northwestern on Saturday.  Kickoff will be at 3:00pm.  Pre-game coverage begins at 10:00am on “The Breeze,” KLIQ 94.5FM.

 

The Nebraska volleyball team picked up a pair of Big Ten road victories over the weekend.  The Huskers beat Illinois on Friday, then knocked off Northwestern on Saturday. Nebraska is now 10-1 on the season, 2-0 in the conference.  They’ll play at Rutgers on Wednesday.

 

The Nebraska women’s soccer team beat Illinois 1-0 yesterday.  The Huskers are now 3-6-2 and will play at Iowa on Thursday.

 

The Hastings College football team scored the first ten points of the game, but could not hold off Doane in a 37-12 loss on Saturday in Crete.  Hastings outgained Doane 436-258, but the Broncos lost three fumbles and had ten penalties.  Hastings is now 2-2 on the season, 1-2 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference.  They’ll play host to number one ranked Morningside on Saturday.  Kickoff will be at 1:00pm.  Pre-game show begins at noon on 1230AM KHAS.

 

The Hastings College soccer teams beat Presentation College yesterday at Lloyd Wilson Field.  The women won 4-0 to improve to 6-2 on the season.  They’ll host the College of St. Mary’s on Wednesday.  The men beat the Saints 10-0.  The Broncos are now 7-0-1 and will host Jamestown on Saturday.

 

The Nebraska-Kearney football team lost to Pittsburgh State37-14 on Saturday.  The Lopers are now 2-2 and will host Northeastern State on Saturday.  The volleyball team beat Newman University on Friday and Central Oklahoma on Saturday.  The Lopers are now 13-0 and will play at Central Missouri on Friday and Northwest Missouri State on Saturday.

 

The Hastings High softball team went 2-1 in the Crete Invitational over the weekend.  The Tigers are now 20-6 and will play Aurora and Grand Island Central Catholic today.  Adams Central went 2-1 in their own tournament.  The Patriots are now 15-8 and will play at Fillmore Central/Exeter Milligan today.  St. Cecilia had the weekend off.  They’ll play Boone Central Newman Grove and Guardian Angels Central Catholic today in Albion.

 

In volleyball, Hastings High lost to Elkhorn South. The Tigers are now 14-5 and will play in the Columbus Classic this Saturday.  St. Cecilia went 3-0 in the Holdrege Invite to improve to 16-1 on the season.  The’ll host a tournament beginning tomorrow.  Adams Central went 2-1 in their own tournament on Saturday.  The Patriots are now 10-9 and will host Northwest on Tuesday.

 

ROYALS> The Kansas City Royals wrapped up the season with a 5-4 win over Minnesota.  The Royals finished the season 59-103.  The Major League postseason gets underway tomorrow night with the National League Wild Card game between Milwaukee and Washington.  The American League Wild Card game will be on Wednesday as Tampa Bay plays at Oakland.

 

NFL> In the NFL last night, New Orleans got by Dallas 12-10.Tonight you get Cincinnati at Pittsburgh beginning at 7:15pm. We’ll have it on ESPN 1550 KICS beginning with the pre-game show at 6:30pm.
