Local Sports 9-5-2019

The Nebraska football team will play at Colorado on Saturday. The Husker offense will be looking for improvement after putting up only 278 total yards in last weeks 35-21 season opening victory over South Alabama. The Buffalo’s accounted for 475 total yards in their 52-31 victory over Colorado State. Kickoff will be at 2:30pm. Pre-game coverage begins at 9:30am on “The Breeze,” KLIQ 94.5FM.

The Nebraska volleyball team will play Arizona and San Diego in the USD Invitational this weekend in San Diego, California. The women’s soccer team is also in California for games against Long Beach State and USC.

The Hastings College volleyball team lost to Concordia last night in Seward. The scores were 25-19, 14-25, 19-25, 18-25. Danielle Bruha led the Broncos with 14 kills. Lucy Skoch had 13. Hastings is now 2-6 on the season, 0-1 in the conference. They’ll host Roosevelt University tomorrow night in the Five Points Bank Classic. First serve will be at 7:00pm.

The Hastings College football team is off this weekend. They’ll play host to the University of Jamestown next Saturday. The men’s soccer team will play at Kansas Wesleyan on Friday. The women’s soccer team is at Oklahoma Wesleyan on Saturday.

The Nebraska-Kearney football team will open the season tonight at Missouri Western State. The Lions have lost 40 of their last 44 games, but have a new head coach this year and a roster that is riddled with 39 transfers. Kickoff is set for 6:00pm.

Nebraska-Kearney Athletic Director Mark Bauer has announced that Kearney native Katie Ackerman will be the ninth head softball coach in Loper history. A star player at both Kearney High and Chadron State College, Ackerman most recently was the top assistant coach at McCook Community College for three years.

NFL> The NFL’s oldest rivalry will kickoff the leagues 100th season tonight as the Green Bay Packers play at Chicago. Kickoff will be at 7:20pm. We’ll have coverage on ESPN 1550 KICS beginning at 6:30pm. The Sunday night game this week will feature Pittsburgh at New England. There’s a doubleheader on Monday as Houston will play at New Orleans in the first game followed by Denver at Oakland.
