Local Sports 9-9-2019

Nebraska has dropped out of the AP Top 25 College Football Poll after Saturday’s 34-31 overtime loss to Colorado.  Clemson is ranked number one in this week’s poll after their 24-10 win over Texas A & M.  Alabama is second followed by Georgia, LSU and Oklahoma.  Rounding out the top ten are Ohio State, Notre Dame, Auburn, Florida and Michigan.


Nebraska blew a 17 point first half lead in Saturday’s game.  Colorado erupted for 31 points in the final 17 minutes of regulation to force overtime, then hit a 34 yards field goal to win it.  Adrian Martinez completed 16 of 26 passes for 290 yards and two touchdowns.  He also rushed for 66 yards on 19 carries.  Maurice Washington rushed for 77 yards on 15 carries.  He also caught four passes for 118 yards and a touchdown.  Will Honas led the defense with nine tackles.  Nebraska is now 1-1 on the season and will host Northern Illinois on Saturday.  Kickoff will be at 7:00pm.  Pre-game coverage begins at 2:00pm on “The Breeze,” KLIQ 94.5FM.


The Nebraska volleyball team beat Arizona and San Diego in the USD Invitational over the weekend.  The Huskers are now 4-0 on the season and will host the Ameritas Players Challenge this weekend.


The Nebraska women’s soccer team beat Long Beach State 2-1 and lost to USC 2-0 over the weekend.  The Huskers are now 1-3-1 and will host Oklahoma on Friday.


The Hastings College volleyball team went 3-0 in the Five Points Classic over the weekend with wins over Roosevelt University, McPherson College and Tabor College.  The Broncos are now 5-6 and will host Doane on Wednesday.


The men’s soccer team beat Kansas Wesleyan 4-0 on Friday.  The Broncos are now 4-0 and will host Baker University on Wednesday.  The women’s soccer team beat Oklahoma Wesleyan 3-2 on Saturday.  The Broncos are now 2-1 on the season and will play in McPherson, Kansas this weekend.


The UNK volleyball team went 4-0 in their preseason invite over the weekend.  The Lopers will host the Fall Classic this weekend.


The Hastings High softball team lost to Elkhorn 15-6 and beat Ralston 13-0 on Saturday.  The Tigers are now 7-3 and will host Northwest tonight.  The St. Cecilia softball team went 1-2 in the Fairbury Tournament.  The Hawkettes are now 8-3 and will host Columbus and North Platte on Tuesday.


The Hastings High volleyball team went 2-1 in the Lexington Tournament.  The Tigers are now 6-4 and will play at Grand Island on Tuesday.


The Tri City Storm beat Lincoln 6-4 in a preseason game on Saturday at the Viaero Center.  The Storm will play Des Moines in the 1-80 Showcase on Friday at the Ralston Arena.  The puck will drop at 4:00pm.


ROYALS>  The Kansas City Royals lost to Seattle 9-0 yesterday.  The Royals are now 53-91 on the season and will play at Chicago on Tuesday.  First pitch will be at 7:10pm.  Pre-game show begins at 6:30pm on “The Breeze,” KLIQ 94.5FM.


NFL> In the late NFL game last night, New England beat Pittsburgh 33-3.  Tom Brady threw for 341 yards and three touchdowns for the Patriots.  Tonight, Houston plays at New Orleans and Denver is at Oakland.  We’ll have coverage on ESPN 1550 KICS beginning at 6:00pm.
