Hastings resident Harvey Dietrich Benker, 98, passed away Thursday, October 24, 2019,
at The Kensington, Hastings, NE.
Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 29, at First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hastings
with Pastor Joel Remmers officiating. Burial with military rites by Hastings Military
Honor Guard will be at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Monday
with family present 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service at the
church. Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later
date. Private condolences may be sent to the family at www.lbvfh.com. Livingston Butler
Volland Funeral Home & Cremation Center is serving the family.
Harvey was born August 10, 1921, in Webster County, NE to George & Dena (Johnson)
Benker. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945 during World War II. Harvey
married LuJean Pfitzer in 1948; she preceded him in death in 1992.
Harvey worked 30 years at Hastings Regional Center; retiring in 1986. He also worked as
a part-time custodian for First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Harvey was a member of First
St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, a life member of V.F.W. Post #10562, Eagles #592, Eagles
Camper Club of #592, and Square Club for many years.
Harvey was preceded in death by his parents; wife, LuJean Benker; three sisters; and
