HASTINGS – The 2019 Relay for Life will be happening on Friday from 6pm to 10pm at Hastings High School. They will be both indoors, in both the north and south gyms, and outdoors, on the track.
Relay for Life is a fundraiser that raises money for the American Cancer Society. The American Cancer Society provides resources for cancer patients and their families and provides grants for doctors and research to eradicate cancer.
There will be a silent auction, opportunities to donate, and vendors at the relay. Shawna Crawford, the Event Lead for the Relay for Life, says they have some new stuff there this year.
This year we are doing a pampering and resource area. We’ve partnered with several local people to just give people an idea of what there is in the community that can be helpful to them during this time. So we’ve got a gal that will be doing massages. A gal that will be doing some makeup. We’ve got someone coming from Golden Rule Skin Care. They’ll even do, probably some screenings, to just check your skin. We’ve got the Innovative Women’s Healthcare Clinic coming. GNC. We’ve even got some therapy dogs that will be roaming around the evening just to provide some additional comfort for people.
Crawford said this is something new they wanted to try out and they are always open to more providers being involved for next years relay.
This year’s theme is Dr. Seuss, so dress up as a Seuss character if you like. The motto this year is: “I don’t like cancer here or there, I don’t like cancer anywhere.”
