HASTINGS – U.S. Senator Deb Fishcer will be the keynote speaker at a Memorial Day event on Monday in Hastings. The event will get underway at 10am at the Veterans Circle in Parkview Cemetery.
Chris Long, an Adams County Veteran Services Officer, says it will be a great event and he hopes people, especially veterans, will come out and pay respects to our fallen military service members.
We’ll have the flag lowering by our commanders for the local veterans organizations. Clark Williams, from the American Legion. Brian McDonald, the Commander of the Disabled American Veterans. And Cathy Winegarden for Veterans of Foreign Wars. They’ll be lowering the flag to half mast. We have Harold King as our reverend, who will be out there giving our invocation and benediction. We’ll do the pledge of allegiance with all. And then we’ll have other organizations out there laying wreaths in remembrance.
After that they will head over to Sunset Memorial Gardens to pay tribute and remember those veterans. Then, at noon, there will be a free lunch for all veterans at the DMV in Hastings.
These events are free and open to the public. The DAV will take a free will donation from non-veterans for the lunch.
