United Way’s Annual Toys for Tots is Underway

HASTINGS – The United Way’s Annual Toys for Tots is underway and they are asking people to donate toys for kids who may not receive any this holiday season. Every year there is a need for it, but because of the pandemic the need for donations is bigger this year. The goal is to make sure every kid gets a toy for the holidays.

Jodi Graves, the Executive Director of the United Way of South Central Nebraska, says that they are not getting as many toys from the marines this year, so that also increases the need for donations. Normally, about half of their toys come from the marines.

This year, because of COVID just like all other nonprofits, the marines have taken a hit as well. They’ve had to cancel fundraisers and they haven’t been able to have their traditional toy drives throughout the year. So we need the local communities help now more than ever. We really need people to find those boxes or pick up an extra toy when you’re shopping and drop it in one of the local boxes to help out those local kids. All of those toys that are collected stay right here and help kids right here in South Central Nebraska.

There are many locations you can drop off toys at. All CPI locations, Menards, Hastings Chamber of Commerce, and others. Places like Steeple Brewing are offering deals on beer if you donate toys. The United Way will also take monetary donations if people would rather do that.

They are also accepting applications for people who want to sign up for Toys for Tots. Those applications can be picked up at the Hastings Chamber of Commerce as well. December 15th is the last day they will take toys or monetary donations for Toys for Tots.
