HASTINGS – The YWCA of Hastings, the Mary Lanning Community Health Center and the SASA Crisis Center will be hosting an adult sex education class tonight at the Lark with the doors opening at 6:30 and the class getting underway at 7:00.
They will start with a panel discussion and open them up to a question and answer session after.
Jo Springer, the executive director of the SASA Crisis Center, says that they have four really good panelists to discuss this sex education.
Our Panelist are going to be Dr. Laura Logan who is an Associate Professor of Sociology at Hastings College, Dr. Daniel Leonard who is a Pediatrician at Children & Adolescent Clinic, Holly Eckhardt who is a nurse practitioner and a provider at Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and Judy Melius who is a Therapist at Transformational Healing. So they have just a huge wealth of information to share with people on a variety of topics related to sex and relationships.
They will be discussing topics like faith and sexuality, in which they’ll have three local pastors to help in that discussion, LGBTQ issues, healthy masculinity, and sexual and reproductive health.
They will have other mental health professionals, social service providers, and medical experts on hand as well. They will also have a cash bar.
Springer says that too many adults don’t have a proper education when it comes to these topics and they hope to educate people more.
This is a one time event but they do want to do this annually. They ask for a five dollar donation if you do attend to help them cover the costs but they won’t turn anyone away.
